Another question about Scotland. The government recently have been particularly concerned about an SNP victory in the Scottish Parliament elections and calls for Scottish independence which, interestingly, a higher percentage of English people support from Scots. But, does the Scottish Parliament have the power to secede from the union? Or is the dissolution of the Act of Union something that can only be done through the British Parliament? If the latter, then why the concern about an SNP victory, as it would be impossible for them to gain enough seats in the House of Commons to make a difference? And leading on from that, Scottish independence, yay or nay?
I dont quite understand it, but I have noticed a lot on TV trying to stop the SNP winning, which is looking likely... Heres me who watches more political programmes than all my friends put together, and I dont know whats going on, do you think its deliberately complicated?
we are still part of the westminster parliment so they will never get the real power to separate this union.
I suppose its only a matter of time for Scotland to have a full seperation from the union, when you think there has been massive investment into the Scottish Assembly, it may only be a talking chamber without any great power but I feel as time goes on Scotland will gain greater and greater INDDE............PENNNNN........DENNNNNNCCE!!!!! How this maybe achieved I'm not sure. How will Scotland survive economically when the UK sold great asets like the north sea oil reserve to the Americans which would have been a Scottish asset if having independence at the time, who knows?
It is a reserved power, but a yes vote in a referendum would send a clear message to westminster. It would be economic suicide (we get mroe back than we contribute through the barnett formula), and borders are just artificial ways of seperating people. No point in making more.
I think we in England should be worried about the prospect of Scottish independence - the loss of Scottish MPs from Westminster could condemn us to permanent Tory rule...
yay! I agree with my ancestor Robert the Bruce, keep fighting for independance!!! by the way, i know Robert the Bruce was for the english at first, but he came to the right side in the end and won the battle blessings xxx p.s. FFFRRREEEDDDOOOMMM!!!
Robert the Bruce was a monarchist bastard, who cared only for his own money... Im yet to see a convincing argument as to how independace will benefit scottish people...
Maye it's time for England to declare independence from the UK? Let the Scots, Welsh and Channel Islanders sort out the Northern Ireland peace process.
Not likely, as long as we have the Scotch under our thumb we can get our hands on the north sea oil... Hmm, what do we actually get from Wales? Besides sheep and communicable diseases
Nah, HM the Q gets to keep Balmoral and all the other places as the SNP website states that they intend keeping the Queen as Scottish head of state after independence. You can however expect Labour to fight tooth and nail to stop independence as without Scottish MP's Labour have never and probably will never win another general election in England.
interesting scotland like any other place on earth should be free to govern itself... the people are human and live on the land in question....SO freedom for the scots.... lovenpeace from saff ps.. one day the uk will fail and fall.. as will the usa..the world is changing slowly and people will not put up with our human beings' murdered through war or the fight for this planets resources.... the capitalists will fall away with class divide .. this will be the freedom we all need...
