I had a set of dreads which were backcombed for a little over a year and a half ... but they were very unkept and pretty much became one huge knot that could not be fixed. So two really good friends drenched my head in conditioner and spent about 3 days combing the mess out. I got a good bit cut off and then I left my hair go for about 6 months, and the time has finally come to dread again. This time i'm going entirely natural ... no backcombing. It's only been a week, but i'm seeing some very pleasing results. This time i'm going to keep up on ripping them apart and keeping them somewhat 'neat'. I'll post some pictures as soon as they dry [first washing was today]. Anyway, my names Josh. I love dreads. Nice to meet ya.
exactly what I'm going through! The back-combed ones never really worked that well for me. My name is Eryn. Nice to meet you. Mine are not forming at all. Its been 2 1/2 months since I just let things go. My hair hadn't had dreadlocks for about a year I'm guessing before this. My hair is pretty straight so this may take a while for me. Welcome to the forum!
My hair is straight too... but you'll find it'll lock up with time and patience Straight hair does take longer... but it DOES lock up.
Hey Josh, I'm Sped(dy) =D Is that you in your pic? I think you would look very sexy with dreads *blush* How long your hair?
My hair is about shoulder legnth. Here is a picture of my first set of dreads before I brushed them out. You can see they were just a mess of knots ... hopefully this time things will be a little bit more organized upstairs, haha.
oh they wont be lol... just keepum ripped,,, they be fine though,,, the all natural things a whole different bag then back combed etc lol,,,, the mess is all part of it but they will look luvly i can assure you
Thanks Dilli. I'm actually considering having a few parts backcombed. I was thinking of hitting the road with the next month, and wanted each one of my close friends to backcomb a part of my hair, and put a bead/wrap of their choice in it. Somthing personal to remember them by.
so long as ya not got too many friends that sounds kewl,..... at one point i had oodles of doodads in me locks,,, got to be hard to sleep on or move me head round without gettin bead whipped.. so now have just one lil bead in mine and a lil wrap from a sister that did a wrap on bout 2 inch long hair four years ago for me that i sewed back into the dread............ hhb has a snap from a hospital gown from a sister that passed n was cremated,,, we dug it out of her ashes travel south,,, ill give ya a cow toof in them locks
If I make my way south on my journey I would love to make a visit to you and HHB. As of now, my plans are west, but who knows where the road will take me.
hi, josh! i think dreads will really suit you. congrats on beginning both of your journeys. you seem to be very at peace and it's lovely.
That's exciting you're going natural this time, I'm sure they will be beautiful! Have very merry journeys!!!
Keep us posted on your natural dread journey..... You'll look great with them, I'm sure. I really liked your first set of locks, but can understand if they didnt turn out how you were wanting them..... I've had 4 sets so far, and the nice thing about hair is that it usually grows back no matter what you put it through.
well hey josh, i'm kat. i backcombed mine, never had a problem. i will be going on 11 months the end of october. good luck and keep us posted with pics. here is a before and after of me. 1st pic is 3 months. second pic is 10 months (i crocheted the flyaways a few weeks ago). peace!!
