So I walk into Tescos the other day and they've got self-service checkouts. They're so weird, I didn't expect a place like Tescos to be so trusting.
Has anybody elses Tescos got these new inventions?

I was shocked to discover the same thing at our local Asda's a couple of months ago. I'd think lots of people wouldn't scan everything and manage a few freeebies!
    Very trusting indeed.....

our tesco has had them for a long time.

what stuck me was i read about this coming in years ago and the plan was to have just self service and some security people .

and now you had people who work the tills teaching people how to use the self service things and eventually putting them selves out of work

Yeah, there were about 3 or 4 Tescos staff just standing about helping people use the self-service. Madness, utter madness.
I just think it's strange that they can be so trusting in our society, it's not like we're all very trustworthy and honest now, is it!? :p

It's just being put in to stop Tescos paying their staff, but how encouraging to customers will it be to walk into a completely person-free shop? I'd find it sinister, talk about Dawn of the Dead..!

Yeah, a wee bit creepy. All those goods, but nobody to process them except yourself... weird!

Yeah, our local Asda has had a coupla these self service paypoints for a while.... never used them meself, mostly cos i know a coupla lasses that work the tills so i go to pester them..... seems to be a funky idea tho', specially for the shy ones buying the more "embarrassing" items....

well even if they have more stuff stolen the gain in not having to pay wages will most likely make up the difference ,and they will still have shelf stackers for a while until they get some form of robot .
The only thing that will stop this will be a rising energy prices with peak oil or a vast plague , then most likely robber bands and a sort of mad max anarchy will take over much like modern day swansea

i always thought these were a good idea. Not good if it puts people out of work, but damn wish they had them at the Sainsburys near where I live cause they never have enough staff on the tills. If you go in to buy one or two things, you end up standing in the queue for 30 minutes, where as if there was a self service checkout or two you could just go and scan yourself and pay.

... well, maybe not scan yourself ... i mean the items ... well ... you all get the idea i'm sure.

sainsburys near me in islington have them..

its actually really clever..they do it by weight a lot so you move stuff from your basket, scan it then into the bagging area so if you sneakily dont scan something it notices...

    having said that
it always ends up going wrong for meeeeeeeee

Yeah, I like using it.. cause i'm a big kid and I can play shop keepers ;)

But it annoys me, if it weighs wrong on the belt and it stops everythig and says you have to put it on the belt again!
