Hey guys, I was just wondering if some of you could help me out. See, I'm planning on going on a road trip. I'll drive to and stay at festivals and maybe some cheap campgrounds. This isn't for like 2 years but I'm already giving it some serious thought. I've already started to save $5 a week and soon it will be 10 a week... As soon as I graduate I'm going to buy a vw camper van and hit the open road. But even if I continue to save money, I don't think I'll have enough to cover gas, tickets, souveneirs, drugs, campsite reservations, restocking food, etc... so I thought I'd sell some things. You know, at festivals and in parking lots at shows and whatever. I thought I could find deals on incense and stickers and sell those. I could buy a henna tattoo kit and charge people for me to put them on them too. And I can learn how to make and sell a few things: hemp/beaded jewelry, tie dyes, knitted clothing (like hats, scarves, socks gloves, etc), candles... and I figure I can cook and sell food too: hot dogs & hamburgers, veggie burgers, beef & chicken teriyaki on a stick, grilled cheese (lol), chili, beef jerky (my aunt makes some really good beef jerky, mmm). Oh and my last idea, premade mix cds. I know this website that has some really cool live performances by the Dead & Phish from the 60s and 70s, but the site also has many other jam bands, new and old. I could sell premade ones and I could print out a list of all my songs and people can pick like 15ish songs, I'll burn them to a CD, make a label, put it in a case, and sell it for a few more dollars than the premade ones. By the way, I will have a friend or two helping me run things, I won't be doing this all by myself. So I need some advice. Are these good ideas? Will I make any money? Does anybody with experience have any tips for me? Can anybody think of some more things I could learn how to make to sell?? Where else could I sell things while on the road? All suggestions are welcome!! (unless you plan on being an asshole, if thats the case and ur gonna put me down then dont bother)
i wouldn't get into selling cds of other people's music on the lot, people trade cds all the time, but selling them might not be so cool try to learn a craft or trade now & get some practice. i know lots of sisters who are able to support themselves thru sewing. most of them sew & make jewelry all winter long & hit the road in the summer. before you head out, i would start going to festivals & shows for the next two years. meet others who vend & just ask questions. even try vending a single show here & there to get some experience before you head out & have to depend on it for income. i have lots of crafting expereince but no vending experience. btw most festivals & some shows make you pay a vending fee so keep that in mind too. a lot of other vendors don't appreciate fellow crafters who don't pay. try going in with others & have a group set up. also, i would post in the fashion & crafts forum bc there are lots of crafty mamas there...maybe they could lend some advice good luck sister
