Share a song. Don't simply post a song, but post a song you really like and explain why you like it. Do you like the melody, the lyrics, the production, the atmosphere, or maybe just the overall feel of the song?

The first song I would like to share is called 'Hunter and the Hunted' by Simple Minds, off what is no doubt their best album, and one of the best albums from the 80s. The production on the entire album is just amazing and way ahead of its time for 1982. This song in particular has a great enchanting night atmosphere with some great bass playing and an awesome keyboard solo courtesy of none other than the great Herbie Hancock starting @ 3:50.

Everyone has heard this one, but the elegiac coda to this song still stands as one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. It's hard to believe it was co-written by a man who would 13 years later murder his own mother with an axe (he was an undiagnosed schizophrenic at the time). That person's name was Jim Gordon, who is the person you hear on the piano which is coupled with the painfully beautiful slide guitar of Duane Allman, who died a year after this song was released in an automobile accident.

This is what early 80s new wave from Eastern Europe sounds like. When the music is so good, understanding the words means little.

The Chameleons... it amazes me how overlooked these guys were. They were easily on par with the Smiths from a purely musical perspective, but hardly anyone has heard of them. They had one of the most distinctive guitar sounds ever. They are easily one of the best and most underrated groups to come out of the 80s.

When I first heard this song I just knew there was a bow being used on the guitar (@3:18 in this video).

Wherever I was, or whatever I was doing the first time I heard it I can't remember, but that sound has stuck in my head over the years.

Some time later, I saw this video with all the hair and air humping, lol.

To me, it is one of the greats though.

^^^This is the first time I've heard Jake Bugg and I've heard so much about him...He's good! Reminds me somewhat of a young English Bob Dylan

My favourite song from Mogollar, a pioneering Turkish folk/rock band. This ones from the 70s, I think. I cant put my finger on what it is I like about this song, but it has a certain 'something' to it that really gets to me! I first got into this band when I was in a musically experimental phase as a teenager....so listening to it now brings back lots of memories for me :)

The Word/Om, In Search of the Lost Chord, Moody Blues, 1968

The Word is written by their drummer, Gerome Edge, Om by the keyboardist, Mike Pinder.
Pinder recits The Word. Om is done by Pinder and Thomas on lead vocals, melltron and flute. Hayward on sitar, Lodge on cello, Edge on tabla.

Very much like Within You Without You by the Beatles.

This will always be one of my favorite Moodies songs. The vocal harmonies are great, and I love that sort of muted fuzz guitar (which some have mistaken for mellotron) you hear. Just a really beautiful song.

Pack Up - Eliza Doolittle. It's a great song to play in the morning, imo. Just get's me up, wanting to sing and dance in the bathroom as I get ready for work each day. Of course the lyrics are cool, but it's just got "that sorta beat". I love it!

this is of course a Kate Bush cover, but I feel the Futureheads really bring the song to life with energy and urgency, I can relate to its' lyrical content about yearning for love and it always hits me right in that spot.

First off, it's probably not a secret that I am a humongous fan of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Elton John's music and Taupin's lyrics...it's like my ears are having awesome sex when I listen to Elton. lol. Anyway, this particular song is my absolute favorite. The story behind it involved Elton and his then-fiancee and how miserable he was and contemplating suicide. He found refuge in his friends, one in particular convinced him to ditch the bitch and focus on his music instead. I just love everything about the song. It's definitely my favorite at the moment.
