The classic Pink Floyd tribute to the great Syd Barret. Who's with me, is this not one of the most awesome and moving songs of all time? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_gmXtxScYs If I'm not mistaken, the original album version is something like 26 minutes long, but I feel like I could listen to it on loop for hours. Awesome song.
i don't know, i really don't like pink floyd much at all. i think this song would have been ok if it was the length of a song instead of a movie, but after 3 minutes of absolutely nothing happening, i have to turn it off. damn my attention span.
Have you listened to the entire song? If you listen to it on sites like Youtube the song is split into several parts due to the length. I would almost suggest (if you haven't listened to the whole song) going to Youtube and starting at part three or four because that's where alot of the meat is,.
I love Pink Floyd. But it takes me a few listens to appreciate the whole song. The first time I listen to something that long, it all kinda goes over my head. But the second or third time, when I can recognize parts, that's when I can realize how good it is.
I'm only just now deciding which "part" is my favorite. I don't know, I like the chorus which is in a couple different parts wit a slight variation. I feel like you have to listen from beginning to end to really appreciate it, because it signifies the journey of life (in this case, Syd's life) and splitting it apart is like viewing only a portion of his life. The entire Wish You Were Here album I believe was a tribute to him and was constructed to flow as one, just like The Wall.
i doubt that i've listened to the whole thing at any one point. i did skip ahead a bit in the first section, just to find out what song it actually was. it was a song that i've heard plenty of times before, although apparently in an extremely condensed version. i'll check out a later part, just to see what happens, but i really really can't stand pretentiousness, so it will be hard for me to look past the fact that they took longer than the length of most songs just to get through the intro...
Haha very true. I have decided part two is my favorite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pWOGPNQZRY&feature=related
I love this song. it was one of PJ's favorites. I've been listening to it a lot lately, in the car, just drivin' around to the places we went.
The very true was in reference to wildchild. lol Undies, the thing is, like I said, the entire album could almost be viewed as one piece-call it a rock opera or whatever ya like-granted this song takes up half of the album, so I do get what you're saying. haha
ok, part 3 is actually a song. still too pink floydy for my tastes, but like i said, at least there's music there, and it doesn't suck by any means.
That's really sweet. It's funny how some songs can have such a resounding effect on you, almost like they can carry you to the same realm the writer was visiting at the time. I almost feel like I am going along for the ride next to Syd throughout most of this song.
I would lovw to find a recording of that. I have watched a few on Youtube, but so far, I think the Pulse one is the best I've seen.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer... now that's pretentious. Pink Floyd is not pretentious. It's just that some of their music suffers from FM radio overplay, which is unfortunate but not the band's fault. But there are bands far more pretentious. Yes comes to mind as well.
