Does anyone else here love shoegazing? The bands that made up this genre are some of the bands in my opinion that made the wholelate 80's, early 90's alternative scene worth it. My Bloody Valentine, Chapterhouse, Lush, Ride, Slowdrive, all fabulous bands. If there's one new type of music you want to listen to and haven't really listend to any of these, do it, you won't regret it. I'd say check out My Bloody Valentine's Loveless first since it's been considered the shoegazing album. That's up to debate but either way it's a fabulous album. Nowhere by Ride is usually also regarded as one of the best of the genre.

My Bloody Valentine is great. I've been looking for Loveless all over the place but all stores seems to carry is Isn't Anything.

I'd probably say Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation is pretty important in that category too

I'm just beginning to get into My Bloody Valentine, been listening to a couple songs from Loveless and...they make me happy. So I'll probably keep checking out more from them, and the genre itself.

I love alot of the shoegazing stuff. Swervedriver (not really shoegazer perse, but noisy and melodic), My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless", Slowdive. Shoegazer stuff was actually just kinda psychedelic music, but in a different way--the swirling atmospherics owe alot to Syd Barrett era Floyd.

Other good bands that were later than that were Southpacific, Sianspheric, and latter day Sadies, which is more psych and less roots/ rockabilly. There's also another band out of Canada, The Unintended, that has members of the Sadies and Elevator/ Eric's Trip. It's not really shoegazer perse, but it has the trademarks of it: hushed vocals, trippy atmospherics, spooky organ, etc. Definetely an awesome record.

I recently heard the album Loveless too, and I thought it was pretty okay, which is already far better than I expected.

    Also try out Lycia (shoegaze/ethereal/darkwave)

My Bloody Valentine is amazing. Every time i hear sometimes (lost in translation ver) i still get the chills. Slowdive and Ride are also pretty good. Anyone who likes this would probably like Slint too, if you haven't already heard them.

I love those bands. I also love the band "rollerskate skinny" which is fronted by the brother of Kevin Shields. They are awesome.

The lost in translation soundtrack, while not completely shoegaze all the way though (actually, some of Shields' songs border on ambient there), is absolutely great.

Also, for more recent stuff, Autolux is pretty darn good. I've been listening to alot of the more drony work that's been done my Boris too. Fun stuff.

I've only ever really listened to MBV, and I guess it didn't really catch my interest enough to try getting into the rest of the genre (though they had some cool songs and lots of amazing textures). Would Cocteau Twins count as shoegazer? I love those guys...

You're right, they're not. I guess I was kind of blank there and only thought about the guitar work. But...if Autolux is considered shoegaze then I'd be inclinded to say that some of Sonic Youth's albums are, too.

Some of Mazzy Star's stuff could be considered Shoegaze.

On!Air!Library! (Though I don't think anyone really know who they are.)

Yeah, to be honest, the only real good shoegaze I can think of is MBV, Slowdive, and Concteau Twins. Oh, and lets not forget the Jesus and Mary Chain, peoples!
