]So i havnt combed or washed my hair in about 5/6 days.. my hair is pretty short so i thought i might try to dread my hair naturally.Well my hair looks as if its starting to knot up a little.. havnt combed it and ive been kinda twisting my hair when its not in a beanie. Also sprayed it down a couple times with sea salt water.. Just wanted your guys opininon on whether i should continue natural or back comb it.. Do i need to section it nice if i do or can i just grab random patches at a time (diff sizes). Is it long enough to backcomb? and if i decide to go natural will it take a lot longer to look somewhat like dreads? thank in advance.

go natiral look at ot its already sectioning perfectly
theres not even enough there to backcomb and its already beginning the natural priocess.,iun just days
either way u go it will be months before u have dreads, the hairs short and backcombing will be a good 4 months toill u can and then 3 more before they are really dreads
but goung natural they'll pronly be faorly started on a coup;e months

yjeres no reason to decide today
comtonie natural till u get 4-6 inches ..i bet ya anything you'll already be dreadin by then
uoir hair wants to dread..cany u see that?

I would stick with natural as well... your hair is already making progress, which is usually pretty hard to see when it's so short. But the choice is really yours, natural dreads require a lot of patience.

my hair is similar in length to yours and I have started going natural..it just feels like its the right way to go

Chances are if you washed your hair right now, all those semi-dread looking twisties will just come out because it looks like just twisted hair

From what I've read on hear theres really no point in twisting your hair untill you actually have some knots forming..soo If I were you just wash your hair with some bronners and chill

Ya just go natural! I tried backcombing while my hair was that length, it didn't work at all, since then I've just let it go naturally... for me the progress is very slow but I have 9 or 10 little dreadies and a bunch of tangles. It looks like your hair will dread up like magic as it grows, it's already sectioning! Awesome :D

Let it grow! It is sectioning nicely on its own.

Dr. Bronners is great to use on dreads (I prefer the peppermint scent...yummy!) You can get it at just about any organic shop. For instance, The Merc, our organic grocery store, has lots of Bronners products.

    Goodluck and patience, my friend!

well if you dont wanna look like a bum and care about your appearance i would wait till your hair is a little longer.
i hate it when people only push the natural way.

soaring eagle, ive backcombed and i dont find it frustrating. and yes i have seen some pretty gross people with natural dreads. yeah i know not everyone with natural dreads are nasty. but hey thats just my opinion, take it or leave it.

enayes, natural, backcombing, twist rip, dreadperm are all ways to get dreads.
getting and growing is the same thing

backcombing can encourage a sense of control in a process that can not be controlled. you can help guide it at best. things change and either you let it be, or you hold your grip so tight you take the life out of your hair. that is why if people backcomb, they are encourage to only do it once then leave it alone.

ive had manufactured dreads and im in the process of letting my natural dreads form. there is no difference between then and now, except now i am just letting my hair do its thing. it is working well just like topic creator's is working well. because i let my hair lock, i am a bum? shampooing and combing your hair every morning is a commitment to damaging yourself. if being healthy is being a bum then i guess i am a bum, in your eyes at least.

the natural way is the only way that doesn't form dread-looking things overnight... that is why it is more growing than just being. only people with trained eyes can look at a backcombed dread and say yeah, that still has to grow. every path to locking is a journey though, no method makes insti-dreads.

    :piggy:

Gmoney- your hair looks sectioned nicely. hair will dread and if you stop worrying about it you will be happier. it works for me.

i see what you mean (kind of)

i prefer backcombed to natural,, cause i hate the way natural dreads look in the beginning, and i know i wouldnt wanna go thru that stage, therefore id backcomb to start it off, and then do not much else..

Should it really matter who has natural locs or not? All dread locks eventually look great. Shouldn't we not concentrate on the fact that dreads unite us all? Some people, either their too lazy or they wanna get dreads straight away, will always back comb. I did. I'm not ashamed of it. But all I've done for a long time is wash with Bronners once a week.
