obviously, china isn't a great nation. They supply weapons for the darfur genocide, are extremely cruel to animals [just look up 'chinese fur trade' on youtube]

    so, let's boycott them.
because if we do that, it's less money to go for these weapons and everything. I think.

But wouldn't that mean no jobs for the people living there?

I'm kinda in a twist here

I do tend to avoid most products from China. Not only are they known for human and animal rights violations, but as of late their safety standards have come into serious doubt, from lead paint in children's toys to baby-killing melamine in watered-down milk.

I wasn't thinking of it as a boycott so much as self-defense.

I tend to think of boycotts more in terms of where I'm putting my green energy, rather than thinking whether or not my purchase will actually bring the crushing wheels of globalized corporate capitalism to a hault.

Just the fact that it's so hard to boycott China is part of the problem. We are sending them way too much of our money and giving them too much control.

I tend to steer clear of Chinese products because they have no safety standards. Where our market is today if China is supporting something in the world, so are the corporations doing business there. We should boycott them first.

If you boycott China you will starve and walk around naked. Boycott America!

Let's organize another Boston Tea Party!..ok, maybe not.

My family gets along fine without Chinese products, thank you very much. No starvation, and no involuntary nudity.

Go right ahead and doubt it then. That doesn't change the fact that we do.

Plenty of clothes aren't made in China. No problem. Shoes are tougher, but doable. Food is no problem. Eat fresh, local unprocessed food.

    There, I'm clothed and fed.

    thanks.
    I guess.

it doesn't really answer my question about the workers, but nothing from china is good. so screw 'em.

I don't think my clothes are made in china.
my shirt is made in salvador, and I'm pretty sure my pants are made in america.
    and to say I'll starve?
dude, where on earth are you getting your food from?
    yup. bull.

I'm not technically boycotting China, as in I'm not making it a point to avoid buying things from there. But, I've always tried to buy as local as I possibly can. Especially in the last 10 years or so, I've really gone out of my way to support local industry, local artisans, and local farmers. Anything made in Canada, and if I can, made in Ontario, just because it's right in my own back yard.

Just for the sake of supporting local economy, and it's a good environmental choice as well.

Shopping local, second hand, or doing without for us is a lot easier than battling the big box.

When you shop for anything, look at where it is made. Asia is our main supplier. US companies make greater profits closing plants here and having product shipped from there. The Etch-A-Sketch, toothpaste, oil filters and your pants. (please wear pants) Buy as your conscience allows. I try to buy US when possible. The extra few cents does go to a good cause. It allows someone here to buy whatever it is you make or sell.
