Saw they're doing a few shows with Hallucinogen next couple of months as well. Is that an awesome package or what!
i think that's the only reason anyone goes to a techno show.. i mean.. what other reason is there.. like any of that shit sounds good sober..
it's a fusion of psychedelic genres lumped into one with time signature changes, melodic overtones and crawling basslines; interesting polyphonic textures that are far more technically produced than techno.
you have no idea how fucking stupid that sounds to 95% of people who hate techno/don't care about it. even if they do put alot of time into their music.
I agree, to people with an aversion against electronic music and thus call everything techno Psygrunges explanation doesn't makes sense since they don't know what psychedelic genres are being fused. It seems most of the electronic music haters gather everything electronic, from Sphongle to the Prodigy to Benny Benassi and DJ Tiësto, under the techno name. Rather silly, but yeah, if you don't know about an artist what can you expect. Actually, I'm no different . What I've heard from Tiësto and Benassi makes me prejudiced to their subgenres as well. And don't get me started on the actual techno genre. But at least I know it's not all the same. :cheers2:
But it's not all psychedelic genres, there's heavy influence from eastern stuff lots of indian scales and melodies, tribal influences from african and south american cultures, a hefty dose of psychedelic rock thrown in, heavy influence from that early-mid 90s era of downtempo and despite having many electronic elements is very far removed from techno. Raja Ram was in Quintessence in the 60s and 70s too. Calling Shpongle techno just because it has electronic elements makes you sound ignorant. It's like saying every song with a guitar in it is rock and roll or every track with a trumpet or violin in it is classical or everything with a black woman singing is soul. If someone say 'techno' to me it can conjure up lots of different sounds/styles but nothing like Shpongle comes to mind. Electronic music is huge and so varied you can't label it all as being shit or for being on drugs to without coming across completely closed minded and like you don't know what you're talking about. Like I've said before, it takes much less talent and skill to pick up a guitar and strum E and A barred chords in minor and major than it does to produce something even vaguely half decent sounding electronically. Back on topic... I saw them was 2001/2 or something, I believe they haven't toured with the full live band since then, certainly haven't played in the UK apart from DJ sets, which I've seen in a couple of countries. Didn't bother with it this time- too expensive and I have a pretty busy weekend. I'm going to the After-after-party 'Daytrippers' though, starts at 8am and finishes at 6pm at Jamm in Brixton...
different strokes for different folks.. i wiki it.. cuz as my previous post states "what ever that is..." .. i see a man behind a giant sound board and mixers.. i'm definitely not gonna think "wow.. maybe he does folk music"... either way.. its music made from samples of other music.. and synthesized through a computer... a rough meaning of "Techno" so i filter it under there for my own personal taste.. because i do not care for that kind of music... you wanna bash me because i DON'T listen to it.. now whos the hypocrit..
