Shroom season (Libs) UK.

Right i checked my site yesterday, and only found a mere 40 libs, i met another 2 guys up there on my way out of the field entrance ( I didnt know them but by chance they were from my home town aswell )

Now these guys said there was supposedly loads out 3 weeks ago .. and there wasnt many out now because the season has ended .. haha
I got home and even my old ma'h said its usually october for good hauling ..
As i allready know as ive picked for the last 9 years from my site.

Its still the end of september and the north has been quite dry, the ground was dry at my site i know that, and im damn sure october will bring them out in abundance close upto the first frosts. :cheers2:

So im just wondering if anyone else in england has come accros any yet ?
And how do you find the precious time span in autumn to go picking, like how early / late can you go out and still find them at your sites ?

Bah, there hasn't been enough rain down here yet. I'll start hunting a day or too after the next decent shower.

They're usually about until the first frosty mornings in November.

 

Yeh thats what i was banging on about in my first post, these 2 newb's turning up at my site telling me its allover till next year .. you gotta laugh somtimes ...


Like said they not EVEN started yet .. haha, and yeh first frosts is when they shut up shop ..

Just an update, Whilst i was camping / fishing ( friday to today ) at norwich i found loads of fly agaricks round the lake bank near silver birch trees ( common place ) i didnt bring them home as ive still got the last ones i picked from the very same fishing venue last year.

Ill be out checking my lib site within the next few days again after i fix my motorbike.

Been out today to check my lib site, they were still scarce, the ground isnt damp enough yet imo ..

Came home with a mear 72, And on my way back home my motorbike broke down on the motorway .. haha .. sat there for 1 1/2 hours awaiting my pick up ..

What a day, lol ..

Anyone else finding them .. southern england / wales area ?

 

I wish I could come home with a "mere" 72 mushrooms and call it scarce. Jesus Christ man

 

Dont get me wrong i have a sense of values dude, but ive been visiting this site for nearly a decade now and going by recent years its quite possable to be coming home with a bread bag full, 600 - 800 libs, some of us have bust the 1000 in a days gathering ..

The season seems to be very late for my area, just like last year was ..

Will be fixing my motorbike on monday so will update anymore findings after then .. i figure they should be bang at it by next week .

 

Im over in Ireland, same season though. Its been too dry here this year so far, only found about 60 altogether, im hoping for a nice week of rain soon though because apart from that conditions have been perfect. Last year was a much later season but I think once theres a bit of moisture in the air that this year is going to be good.
Should be going up to the Kerry mountains with my dad this year aswell, some feilds up there where a few thousand have been picked in a couple of hours last year.

Hopefully its going to be a nice trippy halloween anyway :cheers2:

Im hoping to get out in 2 days again, was fixing my motorbike up today and my mate phoned to see if i wanted to go gathering with him .. typical as i had a full day .. so wednesday it is ..

Definitely will keep ye posted. Concentrating on harvesting my ganj this week but i'll find some time for picking if theres enough rain, and to the people that told you the seasons over :smilielol5: well thats just more for the rest of us, happy hunting to you across the pond aswell man

 

Had a quick look today and got 60 straight away but it was pissing down and I was after not sleeping for 24hrs and really drunk so I just said fuck it and left. Good to see a bit of shit weather bringing out the libs though

my bike is all sorted now, the damn thing has got to be the unluckiest motorbike ever .. haha ..

I think ill go check my site tommorow, my mate phoned earlier and cant go as he's got jobs on so ill just go alone ( Again ) at least if i haul i get the lot .. haha ..

 

Each year I always spend at least one day going out at about 7am (has to be fuck loads in the feild though) and eating every 3rd one I find...thats a full days picking though...as I start to trip the caps seem to twinkle and its really easy and fun next nice weathered day after some rain and I'll be doing that

 

Been out today, managed to scramble together 342 libs .. good and proper worn out now, it wasnt easy going and i spent the best part of 4 hours to find them.

On the upside a lot of them are large specimens .. real big caps with thickish stems ..

Got em laid out on sheets of news paper drying now .. hopefully try agin in 2 days.

 

Managed to get 120 today in about 2 hours through 2 fields, there were three of us out there, back ass of nowhere countryside and about 5 minutes into picking we heard voices and it turned out to be two of our friends that happened to go to the exact same feild...weird coincidence haha

 

Had a count up today, ive got around 500 libs, with 90 of them being left over from last season .. but i dont count the realy tiny ones they just get added to the wraps anyway so theres prob a few more for good measure .. Haha ..

The only thing that has stopped me from getting to my site is my untrustworthy motor .. keeps breakin down .. got a new one coming on thursday so hopefully catch the end of the season ...

Got about 500 altogether so far aswell, found about 2 miles of mountainous feilds which had loads in but wasnt able to stay long. Been really wet the last two days so im going to go out either tomorrow or the next day for the whole day picking, should hopefully come home with close to 1000

just wondering, i know it varies and depends on the size of the mushrooms and all that, but about how much in weight would say 100 mushrooms be?

i live in an environment that won't help me out with this kinda stuff lol.

 

Lucky ... yaahh ..

But not when its important to get there to do the actual gathering, ive had loads of stuff get in the way this season ( Motor constantly breaking down, and loads of various appointments getting in the way )

And to be honest ive never weighed my dried shrooms for a dose, were still cave men in the north of england, and we count approx amounts out and have tripped very well like this for the last decade " If it aint broke why try and fix it "

And yes i know shrooms are of varying sizes etc .. but weve done it like this for years.
This season aint been that lucky for me up to know, as ive picked upto 1200 in a day ( 5 hours in fact ) but ive gathered at least some of natures magic so im happy. And im sure ill manage to get out once or twice more before the season ends ..

 

Yeah we just go by cap number instead of weight, works just fine a coupe of us found about 50 massive caps, easily bigger than the diameter of a golf ball, in about 10 mins yesterday
