I'm not a great singer but i can pull off some lower pitched stuff sorta like jerry garcia...i can't go all robert plant with it you know but i was wondering if there is anyway to improve your voice...excersizes and such...i also need to learn how to playguitar and sing simultaneously...i can play guitar but i can't sing so help me out
Jerry Garcia's singing wasnt really that low pitched if you cant sing and play rhythm at the same time then you have no hope at all, but if youre talking about playing lead while singing, that can be a bit hard sometimes in that case you need to piece the song together bit by bit, while singing in sync with the guitar parts... it takes time
1. driving in a car at night 2. falling into a huge snowdrift 3. getting all the hair out of my face 4. giving hugs 5. getting hugs
RULE #1!!!! Do NOT EVER start smoking!!!!!!!!!!! It kills the nerves in the vocal cords. 2. Pick a style YOU want to sing. Mine was "Soft & Mellow". Your's might be Acid Rock, or Disco. Learn some lyrics. Sing along outloud to help develope your throat muscles. (Don't forget to breath! Learn Breath rythems to sing the lyrics at the correct tempo.)
Some people have an internal metronone that keeps time for them as they sing, if you don't have one, it's like 'soulrebel' said, you have to practice!!! Take a folk song (or any song) with easy chords and slow it down. sing while you strum the chords, maintaining a slow easy ryhthm. practice!,....you're not going to get anywhere if you don't put any work into it. And by all means GET A METRONOME! A great guitar player can shread some riffs, but if he doesn't have any timing...he's useless. work, work, work! Good luck.
right you need to do scalic and breathing exercises i reckon! and vowel exercises...like singing up a scale to 'mah-mee-may-my-mo-moo'...NO SMOKING. i know some singers that smoke, and it really doesn't help. looking after your throat is important. breathing from the diaphragm (breathing low in your belly area) is REALLY useful coz you can sustain notes better and you have more control. if you hum whilst playing guitar, you could build on that maybe?
Play with the cds, you're more apt to stay in time. Then, once you're comforable with that, try it on your own. Singers are born not made, but it still takes practice either way.
I sing and talk to myself when I'm alone. It's great. Sometimes I'll end up just screaming random words just for entertainment. I remember one time my dad walked it on me one time when I was screaming and dancing around the house to techno music.
I disagree completely. Practice makes it all possible...a person can keep perfect time just playing, but screw up when singing. But again, practice makes it possible.
Ive never known anyone who couldnt sing and strum out chords at the same time... if you cant do that, then your real problem is that you probably havent been playing guitar for more than a week otherwise there is something else wrong there...
Yeah, I can't really see how someone can't sing if they're using their foot and guitar to keep the timing. Of course, I don't sing and play lead to my voice because I just don't like doing that. (ie: Voodoo Chile) I can do it, but I just don't like it because it feels strange and I like to go into improvisational jams which don't work for that kind of thing. Now, playing piano/organ/keys, I can't sing and do that at the same time.
hey you kno how you work on Singing?!?!?!?!.. i figured it out!!!.. lol Download Some boogie wooggie piano music.. prefebaly without words in it!!!.. lol it might not be your style.. but SCAT to it.. it really works your voice and Gets your Range just a working!!
Well, of course some people find it easier when it's done with easy chords. With a more musically difficult song, it's much more challenging. I don't sing...but I would imagine playing bass + singing is more difficult than singing and playing guitar.
I had the same proboblem as you when i started, i couldn't keep the rythem and sing at the same time, also a bunch ppl like some of the ones above me told me there was no hope.all i did was started singing with songs that had voicings (you know wher the notes go along with the lyrics) and after that it got pretty easy.
i can sing and play at the same time, my problem is that my vocals keep cracking, and i cant control it...
I had a gig last night for 2 hours and I have another one tonight.... Only my voice is all ragged now and I can't hit any decent high notes.... Anyone have any ideas how to sooth my voice?
