UGH, I keep getting sinus infections. I was treated for two sinus infections already this WINTER...so all within a couple months, and now I am fairly positive I have another one [I'm going to the doctor on Monday to find out, and all that good junk]

It makes sense since I'm pretty much allergic to LIFE. I've always had touchy sinuses....

but this is getting really lame, really fast. Do any of you have any natural remedies to help keep sinuses clear to AVOID getting these things?! Teas, herbs...whatever, anything.

    Anyone?

P.S. I have allergy medicine, FYI.... nothing seems to work, either. My allergist, doctor, everyone has tried all sorts of allergy medications and nasal sprays and EVERYTHING with me, and nothing seems to quite do the trick. So yeah, before anyone asks if I take allergy medicine....I do what I can!

have them check for "glue ear" where fluid stays behind the eardrum and reinfects constantly. Sinuses and ears are connected and an infection that flares in one can actually be harboured in the other.
Also, have any abscessed teeth? also goes straight to the sinuses.
A neti pot, humidifoer and aircleaner can make you feel much better.
Drink plenty of water, the reccomendation plus half again that much.

oh, and dairy and citrus that you didn't squeeze create lots of mucous problems for people. I drank a half-gallon of Tropicana juice and I'm fighting mucous build up.

I think Abscessed teeth are infected...but I am not completely sure. Sinus infectsion are the pits...haven't had one this year yet, but I bet it's coming soon. :p Hot showers and hot tea always make me feel somewhat better. :)

Make ginger tea. I drink it every morning because the pollen count here is INSANE and it helps me clear up.

thanks all :) thats quite a few suggestions, not sure which to try first!

I am pretty certain I do not have abscessed teeth in that case either... :)

*sigh* I will let you all know what the doctor says tomorrow, and if she can't come up with a rhyme or reason as to why I just keep getting these, aside from being allergic to everything.... then I suppose I'll just have to try out these suggestions until summer rolls around [my sinuses are MUCH better in the summer for whatever reason]

There are lots of things that can affect your sinuses, other than just allergies...like weather and iritants. So, it might not always be an allergic response. Just wanted to toss that idea out there...

yep abcesses are infections. Appearantly they can travel the tooth root & into the sinus cavity.

Take druminmama's advice to heart. But, there is an other explaination. More than 80% of people who think they are having "sinus infections" are actually experiencing migraines. Sinus infections WILL show up on an xray, migraines do not. Also, migraines are often accompanied by nausea (but so is sinus problems) light sensitivity, more pain on moving, urinating more than usual, experincing an "aura" sparkling lights out of the corner of your eye, blackness at the edges of your vision, zig zag lines when yu look up ect, and are not usually ONLY one side of the head or the other. Most migraine sufferers have "Common Migraine" who do NOT have aura, and have pain on BOTH sides of the head, ON the face, right where your sinuses are.

An X-Ray can tell if it is really sinus or not. No reason taking antibiotics if you don't have an infection. An other sign, sinus infection are almost always accompanied by fever. Migraines rarely are.

    Hmmm....thanks for all that info.

I don't get those sort of headaches, really I just feel a lot of pressure in my head and my ears pop a lot. Lots of post-nasal drip, etc.

But.... *shrugs* I am not sure what else to do...she said she wanted to see if this worked, before giving me x-rays ....:S

I found more than 100 articles attesting to the fact that almost all percieved "sinus" headaches were, in fact, migraine. Doctors don't like to diagnose migriane, because most don't understand it, and it is easer to presribe antibiotics than find the right migraine drug, out of several hundred.

My own migrianes were once misdiagnosed as sinus. (By an idiot Internist.) My neurologist says "Sinus pain is a very rare thing." It does happen, I get one every 3 or 4 years. But I get 20 or more migraines a month. I am lucky that they can be treated. Also, sinus congestion is a very common migraine symptom, and one which doctors who are not migraine trained (like, ug, an Internist or a GP) will not realize. Too many Internists insist that ALL migraines are "one sided" that they all have Aura, and that they are "rare." When, in fact, migraine is MORE common than actual sinus pain and infection.

I'd get that X Ray, as if it doesn't show the infection, you don't have one. Your next step is a GOOD neurologist, I wouldn't let an other Internist touch my migraine with a 20 yard pole. They don't know enough to treat them.

Here's on of the articles: I have at least 100 more, which say about the same thng.
