YES, no matter how tired he is, if i lay him in his bed, he refuses to sleep. but i put him in his high chair, and he literally falls asleep in 2 minutes! then i have to wait till he is in a deep sleep and gently put him in his bed. Its wierd, my mom watches him sometimes, and said that he would only go to sleep in the high chair. He just got a new kick ass race car toddler bed today, still wouldnt sleep in it, has to sleep in the high chair first. When im talking fighting the sleep, im talking about hours!!! What do we do? I doubt theres anyone with this issue, but some advice on getting him to fall asleep in his bed would be great.

I have tried to let him play in his room and go to bed when he is ready, and he wont stay in his room. I layed him in his bed and sang to him. I read to him. I layed WITH him. nope, nothing works!

Any advice?? or am I gonna have to put him in his high chair every night and then to bed till he gets older? he just turned 2.

Help! :uhoh2: We are running out of ideas!

maybe he just likes falling asleep while sitting up? try to prop up pillows so he is sitting up ad see if that would work....... or he likes the fact that he is high off the ground and its comforting. dont know what else to tell you except good luck........

LOL, kids will go to any measures to avoid sleep...even at almost 2 years old, it doesn't get better. Sounds like he is exhausted but knows that the high chair is not for sleep so it is okay to be tired there...so he falls asleep. I would have a routine that is the same every night at the same times so he knows what to expect and keep putting him in his bed. Also, do not let him get over tired (playing himself out) that will make it so much harder for him to fall asleep. I battled so many issues with my son with sleep. I finally got him staying in his bed at 4 years old (I have several reasons why I don't co-sleep). Good luck!!

Sounds like my brother. My parents say that when my older brother Erich was little, he would fall asleep EVERYWHERE- including face down in the snow- but his crib.

yeah, weve just learned to accept it. and let him fall asleep in the high chair, everyone was making it out to be a big deal that we need to train him to go to his bed , but come to really think about it, there really isnt any harm in it.

You know, kids go through phases. Some eat nothing but PB&J for weeks. Some wear the same outfit until it starts to adhere to their skin. Some have toys that must go everywhere with them. And some kids like to fall asleep in weird areas.

Basically, I'd let him be. It's not hurting him, and obviously, you can transition him to bed once he's asleep. So no harm, no foul.

But if it got to be annoying, I'd try keeping him on a pretty consistent eating schedule. And then start putting him in his highchair earlier than normal by 1/2 an hour. His natural sleep cycle will help keep him awake, and then you can try another way to put him to sleep in bed (yours or his).
