has anyone else read this book. I cryed through the whole thing. Being a vegetarian already it simply made me feel sick for people I know. So what do you think about this book?
killing animals is never a pleasant thing. It will never be a pleasant thing. That's just the way it is. I will never eat at KFC again bacause of the horrible cruelty to their chickens.. Boston Market and BoJangles are still fair game though!! Nothing like oven- fried chicken..
there is NO SUCH THING as humane slaughter. There is no such thing as compassionately raised battery chickens. No large chain is any better than another. The only exception I know of is GoodTimes in Colorado, which uses grass fed/finished beef without confined feeding. So the life was fine, but death, and all meat in restaurants comes through assembly line killing, cannot be compassionate.
That makes me think of the episode of The Simpsons where Homer end up with that Vocabulary Builder tape. All I can hear is Dr. Marvin Monroe's voice saying, "Abatoir. Slaughterhouse. The cows were slaughtered at the Abatoir." Seriously though, are we talking about Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut?
I'm reading "The Meat Business - Devouring a Hungry Planet" a book on sustainable agriculture, i have to write a mini dissertation on it :S
the Jungle by Upton Sinclair is absolutely terrifying. and i hope you're not talking about Slaughterhouse=5, that book was fucking brilliant....
