Over The Past Year I Have Been Experiencing Sleep Paralysis, Although I've Researched It On The Internet, I Haven't Found Anything To Fully Explain My Own Experience!

The First Time This Happened To Me Was By Far The Worst. I Felt Completely Helpless, I Couldn't Move Or Speak && As I Opened My Eyes I Saw A Figure Holding Me Down. As I Tried To Break Out Of It The Figure Dissapeared But I Didn't Awaken, Although When I Looked Around I Could See My Bedroom Comletely As It Was && My Boyfriend Playing His Computer As He Said He Would Be Before I Went To Sleep. Eventually I Woke Up, Terrified && Unable To Fall Back Asleep.

This Has Happened A Few Times Now Although I Haven't Seen The "Figure" Since The First Time. It Feels Like A Dark Presence Is Around && It Scares Me To Death!

Can Anyone Explain Why This Happens && If Theres Anything I Can Do To Stop It?!

    Thanks

Thatis scary. Just a guess, but maybe you got to a point were you were Lucidly dreaming right when you fell asleep, and then were stuck in sleep paralysis because of this.
As for the figure, asuming that you are actually dreaming, you probably need to relax more and get rid of stress! Thefigure probably resembles something in your life. Or, try to take control of your dreams more.
    Good luck.

Sleep paralysis is very common, so don't worry. It happens to me every so often. As a matter of fact, since your mind is sort of in a half-asleep-half-awake reality, you could dream of a figure at the same time as you're laying there looking up - meaning some parts of your experience are real, and others are "half-dreams".

Oh and as a side note, I've heard that exact same story many times before - about being held down, about seeing a figure. But if you're half asleep, your mind will do anything it can to create a rhyme or reason to what you're experiencing - such as a thunderstorm or an alarm clock - so if you feel you can't move... what's the easiest conclusion to draw? Probably that somebody's there, stopping you from moving, right?

In a sense, it all makes sense. In any case - don't worry about it :)

    Thanks For The Replies :)

I Think It Is Mostly Down To Stress At The Moment As It Came About As I Was About To Do Important Exams && There Were Alot Of Things Going On In My Life!

Does Anyone Know What The Figure Could Be Signifying?!

    Thanks Again

I was told by a my doctor that sleep paralysis is a result of regaining conscience even though your body has already released some chemical into your muscles that act as muscle relaxants.

I was told that the reason I was all over the place in my sleep was that my body wasn't releasing this chemical.

I tend to view sleep paralysis as a revolt of the subconscious mind, that you have some idea or belif in your mind and the subconscious is fighting to throw it out, usually in the form of a nightmare. Are you trying to programme your mind? Or are you unaware that you are programming your mind?

That's just my take as I have not had a paralysis dream in over 30 years, where it concerned the ex-wife. Otherwise I would just attribute it to an OBE. You may be having an OBE but your thinking consciousness is still stuck in the body.

I can believe this. I have been having this experience since I was 15 or so, and now I'm 24!!!
I have explained this to my boyfriend and close friends, but anybody can help me, and I think they don't believe me!. They say it might be a dream, but I'm sure is not a dream!. I'm awake! I want to move myself and I can't, I see exactly my bedroom and I put up me arm to turn the light on, I feel I can put my arm on and I can touch the light, but is not turn on! I try to shout but I have no voice! The unique way to finish with this is to relax and to say myself this is going to be ok very soon. Then, suddanly, all is finished!

I haven't been able to find any logical explanation!

OMG finally some people i can relate to. Well im 16, and ive been having episodes of SP since i was about 13'ish. I usually only get an episode on weekends cuz im not waking up to an alarm, or in the summer. I find that getting proper sleeping paterns makes the episodes go away, i most always get them wen i sleep in wayy to late, like past 2 or 3 in the afternoon, or wen i go to sleep super late, or wen i nap, wich i have chosen to stop doing. But as for the experience of SP, for me, it usually only lasts for about 10 seconds to 1 minute. but its still scary as fuck..lol.. wenever im having an episode i can usually slighly move, like my arm, my toes, e.t.c But i always have extreme auditory hallucinations, its kindof like a cross between ringing and extreme fuzz, its real hard to explain. and i rarely have visual hallucinations, if i do its just like strange squigly lines and shit. anyways, wen i try to move it makes the auditory hallucinations or w/e they call em wayyy stronger, its rather frightening. one time i was able to slightly sit up, but i fell back down and had a suppper weird experience, its like my body fell before i did, real weird. And wen i cant move at all, i just wait it out, i try to close my eyes and try to move my finger tips and tell myself in my head that it'll be over in about 20 seconds. But ive been able to control my episodes by using proper sleeping patterns, and using my alarm on weekends and not napping. ive never gone to a doctor about it, just read about it alott. im scared of the doctor anyway :p

Once I felt, I saw.. I can't explain it, my body in my room, like flying, and when it crashed with my wall's room, everything was over!

My most scary end emotional experience was once that I saw my granddad, he kissed on my forehead and he said me: "Oh, my little ... and my name" (in Spanish). He wasn't died, but he was miles and miles away from me. I never asked him if that night he felt something strange... and now is too late...

This has happened to me a few times. It really is one of the scariest experiences ever. I feel like im choking and i look up and theres a dark figure floating over me. Its always so frightening because the figure seems so demonic. I try to scream but nothing comes out and I struggle to do anything to get help but I cant. Then after a bit Im fully awake and its over.

This has happened to me as well. You can read more about it at theshadowlands.net. Do a search for sleep paralysis on their site (it's near the bottom of the page). The site is a little strange but the article will help to clear some of what is happening to you.

Yeah, I Don't Think Anyone Believes Me When I Tell Them Either, My Mother Just Tells Me It's Nothing, Just A Silly Dream, But I Can Clearly Feel Myself That Its Not Just A Dream As I Can Feel How Heavy My Body Is When I Try To Move And I Can See Everything Around Me As Though Iam Awake.

My Boyfriend Told Me Something That Sort Of Freaked Me Out...When This Happens To Me (Or When He Thinks It May Be) My Eyes Flicker About Alot And I Mumble In My Sleep Trying To Move Around.
My Sister Has Also Wakened ME During One Of These 'Dreams' Because I Screamed Out In My Sleep.

Its Getting Rather Annoying And VERY Terrifying

Wow, Thats Actually Pretty Strange, I Get Really Tired Because Of School && Having To Get Up Early So I Usually Go For A Nap Around 5-ish, Thats When This Usually Happens To Me!! I've Never Thought Of Not Having Naps, Because I Thought It Was Just Something That Would Happen Anytime I Went To Sleep =S
I Haven't Said Anything To My Doctor Either, I Don't Want To Look Like A Complete Idiot Infront Of Him, He Would Probably Just Laugh At Me :&

Has Anyone Spoke To Their Doctor About This?! If So What Did They Say, Or Prescribe?!
