I feel tired all the time and I'm sleeping way too much. I've slept for 12 hours and felt like I could sleep longer! Sometimes I have! I've gone to the doc and they took blood and everything came back normal from that. I am so tired of being tired! Does anyone else have this problem? Or know of a way to help it? My job isn't physically hard, it's a desk job and my diet isn't too bad, I'm a vegetarian.

Maybe sitting in a desk job day after day is routining(verb for routine. made it up) your body to relax a lot.

A lot of animals sleep in between meals to conserve energy.
This is a possibility of what your body is doing.
By exercising, you still increase the physical load on your body and over time your body will get routined to doing more in a single day.
I think besides getting a checkup,
changing eating habits(Healthy breakfast, sufficient calories per day, low fat diet, and lots of water per day). Also not too much salt.

Overall, since you already got a checkup, Try exercising and drinking lots of water.
Also B-vitamins are known to give energy. You also piss them out so you cannot overdose.
I would invest in a B-supplement pill, and make sure it has b-12 so that all the b-vitamins are balanced(b-vitamin balance is sought, theres 5-12 different kinds). Take it anywhere from morning to evening. It may keep you awake so I suggest against taking them at night. They are non addictive, and I sometimes use one before going to the gym or to play basketball. I find that I can play for an extra hour of high intensity bball when I take the pill. No Placebo(hopefully).
Also I heard it is good to take the B- vitamin pill with food otherwise it may cause nausea.

Overall, exercise more(it will increase the bodys load of stress and the body will eventually just adapt)

#2 . Drink plenty of fluids and a moderate amount of juices.Eat fruits and veggies a few times a week or everyday.
#3 Since you are a vegetarian make sure you are getting enough protein and the right kinds of carbs(beans, nuts, tofu, moderate milk, wheat pastas / rice, ) etc. Some vegetarians may even lack proper fat nutrition.
So exercise, water, and read online about healthy diets. B-vitamins also help.
Exercise Always boosts my energy if I do it in the perfect amount.Too little and I feel slugged, too much and I'm drained. The perfect amount makes me energized all day, or helps me sleep proper.

I could be a lack of good solid protein, you can get protein from a vegetarian diet but not like a thick juicy steak.
Excersie is good also it can really help get your daily energy reserves up to new highs.

Thanks for all the great advice!

I don't think it's mono......that would have shown up in a blood test....

    And I don't think I'm pregnant.....I'm a lesbian. Sort of impossible.

Exercising more is probably something I should do, however, when I have exercised the lethargic feeling was still there.

You cannot sleep too much. Your body needs that much sleep. Some people need to sleep 24 hours a day. One guy did this for a few months (coma) and he is alive and well now, years later. There can be many causes. You just need to try and find it. Many vegetarians have been tested and found to have too little B-12 and so have many meat eaters as well. I am a vegetarian.

I know a woman who needed to sleep 12 hours per day since she was having a spiritual crises. The most common cause in America is drinking coffee. Center City Philadelphia has lots of coffee shops and cafes. People can drink coffee for years with no problems and then they are tired all the time from a burn-out of their energy system. Medications can do it also. That is why you need to figure it out. Maybe this can help, Natural Cures.

There is a book by an MD that I have, called Are You Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired. It tells all about drinking coffee and not getting enough sleep for years causing a burn out of one's energy system. I heard that a lot of lesbians use drugs, alcohol, smoke and a lot of coffee. Do you avoid all that stuff?

Could it be that you are depressed? Depressed people usually sleep a lot.

Which could explain why nothing showed up on your blood tests.

    when exercising, don't push yourself
start off slow, instead of trying to jog 20-30 mins on your first day, try intervaling walking and jogging for 15 minutes. if u are running and start to feel tired, instead of pushing yourself just stop exercising and walk like u're just walking around, find an interesting sign or place to sit or walk for a minute.

switch from jogging to walking(for fun)...
    switch from working to playing

    switching from trying to relaxing
and back to trying, jogging, working again.
its really easy and u see those marathon runners sometimes
they didn't get like that in a minute or a week, so if u wanna be hardcore energetic just start really very slowly and work your way up and don't think about the results

if u go really slow and start with just a little jogging, u'll see ur energy levels boost during and After the run,
    also make sure u aren't b-vitamin deficient(lots of people, like some1 said have a b-12 defiency)
drink lots of water and eat fruit
    good luck

I think exercise is ur best bet ---just make sure to stretch and start very slow if you want to feel energetic and awake.

Ha, ha well I don't have allergies. I am so tired of it. I take vitamins and when I do have time to exercise, I do sit-ups and push-ups go walking.

    But, I am still tired!

I don't feel depressed or even sad really. There are periods of time that I go through where I feel down or stressed out, but when I'm not going through one of those time periods, I still feel tired.

I've had a blood test and it was normal.

try forcing yourself onto an 8 a night schedule..with more activity between.. oversleeping can be as draining as undersleeping

u said your veggie thats good but you didnt mention wether ya are a big sugar or cafeine addict..were on any sorta meds or anything

but i would try for 2 weeks to set a strict sleep schedule and stick to it..
your body should adjust in time

^ That's what I've been trying for the opposite problem (insomnia)
and lately I am just as tired with more sleep in between =P

Try not to focus on your problems too much, but take steps to correct them over time. If you worry about your problems too much, that's all you'll have; problems.

..or this could be just all around laziness.

When you sleep too MUCH, it has the same effect as if you had slept too LITTLE.

once you lay in the bed all day, you feel like shit already, so you are going to want to just keep laying there.

Also, maybe you could use so motivation or goals so you wont lay in the bed for 12 hours. That is a huge waste of life in my opinion.

    Definitely true.

Excercise more. At first you may not notice much difference in energy levels, but you will significantly over time.
If you can, aim your excercise before you start your day, or if your schedule won't allow it, right after work.
