What are people's sleeping patterns? Most people that I know have very regular sleeping patterns. I do not and they often comment on that as if they expect that it will somehow change the way I sleep. It made me curious about what people think of as normal for them when it comes to sleeping.
Would you change it if you could? Would you sleep more hours or certain times? You can do this with your eyes shut? You gave me a great giggle with your answer, thank you.
Dude, I've been trying to change it for years. I quit my job partly because of this, which was stupid as hell but that's copious amounts of rum for you. Ideally I would like to have a more regular pattern. I have been there and I know all I need is uninterrupted sleep. At the moment I have given up on this, maybe the next shit hole I live in will be better. The best place I ever slept in recent times was on the top floor of a disused soap factory in Holland. It was an artists squat for years, and they let me stay there on my own for 3 months before it got shut down. Not a sound form anywhere, perfect 7/8 hour sleeps every night. I was kung-fu fighting fit at the end of, but now I have lost most of it. Apparently closing doors quietly is too much to ask for most people these days.
Mine is completely fucked up. I have vicious cycle syndrome. Weekday-up at 6am quick power nap 12-12:30pm come home and nap from 6ish to 10ish eat 11ish usually bad to back 1am but asleep closer to 2am-so already I've only left myself 4 hours sleep for work. So I go through the day and same thing. Even on rare occasions where I don't nap, I never go to bed before 12:30 asleep at 1ish. Weekend sleep til between 10-noon usually closer to noon, but still have my 6pm nap and next thing you know it'd Sunday night almost 2am and here we go again. I'm always tired, yet to the outside world it seems that all I do is sleep. GF coming out here to live in a couple of weeks, so we are really going to work on my sleep pattern. I don't know if she will respond to this thread, but I've been meaning to post something about how amazed I am at how early Jennifer can go to bed. God bless you sweetie, plus getting up to exercises-really great for you.
My habits are horrible. I think Im naturally nocturnal. If i had it my way Id be up to 3-4am and sleep till 10-11ish am. At night is also when I have the most motivation to work, clean get stuff done. I end up doing that a lot, then I'll tell myself I have to get on a "normal" schedule even though I dont have a job I have to get up at any specific time for or anything. So I'll force myself to get up at 7-8am hoping it'll get me going to bed early. It usually doesn't work, so Ill end up getting 3-4 hours of sleep a night for a few days-a week till I finally crash and sleep for 10-15 hrs. Then MAYBE I'll spend a few nights going to bed early, then I'll be rite back to staying up all night again :banghead:
I have always had a very regular sleep pattern. For the past year or so I wake up at 5 am and lay there for an hour. I fall asleep around 10pm.
Thanks for all the feedback. I know the people who comment are doing so from concern and they do care. They just do not realize that if it was something that I could change, I would. I have never slept more than 5 hours at a time for the last 30 years and with meds that I have to take to counter side effects, sometimes it is even less, now. I am going to just try to continue to smile at them and ignore it.
I have never been able to do mornings. I can't. Not because I don't want to, though I really do hate them, but because I find it next to impossible. I've had jobs where I've had to wake up early, 5 AM ( though anything before 8-9 is early to me) and I usually end up hating the job, feeling miserable and tired all the time, and I end up putting off my personal life. I also can't sleep before midnight so early rising doesn't work for me. If I ever have to wake up before 6 am I just stay up all night and I feel better physically doing this than getting 3-4 hours of sleep. If I wake up before 8-9 am it doesn't matter how much sleep I got, I will always feel tired. I also never nap as they never made me feel better, usually worse. If I had my way I'd never sleep. I find it a complete waste of time. I used to stay up all night numerous times a week, felt fine afterwards, and enjoyed doing so. For awhile last year my sleeping schedule was 4 am- 10 am on weeknights. Earlier on the weekends. Now I usually sleep from 2 am to 10 am during the week. 1 am to 9 am on the weekends. Going to bed any earlier than this and waking up earlier makes me feel like crap and I get out of sync. I find that I'm most creative early in the morning and throughout the night. I enjoy the dark, the stars and the quiet. Ideally I would like to keep this sleeping schedule for as long as I can.
Usually if I am lucky I get 5 hours sleep. No set pattern. I sleep when I can. Always have been an insomniac but regardless of what time I go to sleep I am up at 6:30 or so. I don't do alarm clocks.
Similar boat here as far as sleep amounts and what's an alarm clock? Insomnia is my constant companion. My best sleeps are when I'm sick and after a night or two of no sleep. Second shifter here so 6:30 is about dead center of my "night".
I am so on schedule. I watched a show until 2am-up at 6am, now all I can do is think about how good my bed is going to feel. Then I'll get up 10-10:30 eat @ 11 up til least 1 and here we go again.
My sleeping pattern can't really be considered a "pattern". It's very sporadic and probably very unhealthy. lol I sleep about 1-4 hours per day during the week, and it's never at a set time. During the weekends and/or my days off, I go to sleep between 8am and 10am, usually, and sleep until about 1pm or 2pm, then I take a nap a few hours later.
:toetap05:Well I hope that you have all reformed and are now starting to sleep like a baby! At the very least, I hope you also have well meaning friends who harp at you. Misery loves company. I am evil enough to imagine giving them something that makes them act like a hamster on speed and then tell them to just relax and they too will sleep. It is rather fun to picture it. It may be a strange coping tool but I can live with that!
During the school year, my sleep pattern is something like: -wake up 7:00 AM -nap 4:00-8:00 PM sleep 4:00-7:00 AM I always stayed up too late each night, and then was tired when I got home from school, so I napped, then I was too rested to sleep at a decent hour so I stayed away late again...and so on Now that school isn't in its bed by 3:00 AM usually and up anywhere from 7-12. Ahh to be a lazy teenage
Oh yes those were the days!!! I feel awful for all of you who suffer from insomnia. That must really suck. My tiredness is more self-induced. One major bonus for me is when the Boston Red Sox play on the west coast. The games don't start until 10 local time. By the time I get my shit together they are usually in the 2nd inning or so, and the games usually end around 1am-so fits my schedule perfectly. I hate sleeping through all their east coast games.
