Since I transitioned to vegan a few months ago and I've been losing a lto of weight, my PCOS seems to be under better control and my periods are getting more regular. :D

My last cycle before the transition, which ended as I started cutting things out of my diet, was 78 days long. Since then I've had a 35 day, 46 day, 41 day, and 31 day cycle. :) And I'm beginning to have a better clue when it's coming, since the last two cycles have been accompanied by cramps 2 weeks ahead (ovulation) and again 3-5 days ahead.

The cramps are the only thing that worries me. Everying else seems to be improving - the cycles are even shorter and lighter. But the cramping has gotten worse - it's more consistent and less of an ebbing pain. And it's weird, also... it seems like there's more crampy area, almost like my lower intestine/butt/that whole end of my digestion is caught up in the cramps too. This time around, I've even had a really hard time going to the bathroom. It wasn't like being consitipated... it felt more like I couldn't find a good position or work my muscles properly. It freaked me out a little, sorry if I'm being gross. :&

Any ideas what could cause all this? I'm worried I might have a cyst that's causing some extra tightness and blockage.

First I have to say if you are following a vegan diet with proper advise and eating/drinknig the right things you shouldnt be loosing weight.
When you have a period are they really mega heavy? or light?
Only because you might have endometriosis as for the bowel pain maybe even IBS or something like that.

Being vegan shouldnt stop your periods either. I would go to the doctors ASAP

I never said I was losing weight *because* of my veganism, merely alongside it. :) I eat very very very healthy, and that's not the point of this thread anyway. (If you want to see more info about specifically what and how I eat, feel free to search my posts elsewhere in the veg and health boards)

I also didn't say my periods had stopped. In fact I said the opposite, that they'd come much more regularly and often. I'm not losing weight at an unhealthy rate - usually 1-3 pounds a week, due to an all-around change in lifestyle.

As I said in my previous post... my periods have gotten much more regular, even lighter and shorter than they used to be. But the quality of my cramping has changed somewhat, accompanied recently by this discomfort/pain in the bowel region.

And, going to the doctor is unfortunately not possible right now. I'm uninsured, and I can't afford it.

Right ok my shite concentrating and reading your post etc.
If your having bowel cramps it could be because of trapped wind, it might be IBS or it might be your bowels adjusting to your new diet

I was thinking IBS as I read your post. I know someone who has it and as her period approaches the IBS worsens and the bowel cramps get really bad. I've read a bit about it and it's reckoned hormonal changes play a part in making the condition worse.

the change in hormones could be the reason for the cramps.
