All I know is that if I was pregnant... I would never drink, smoke or do anything that could potentially harm my unborn baby.

    Seriously?

Google smoking while pregnant and see for yourself...

    moking During Pregnancy: Complications
Smoking has been associated with a number of pregnancy complications. One is an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy. In an ectopic pregnancy, the embryo becomes implanted in a fallopian tube or other abnormal site instead of the uterus. With the rarest of exceptions, these pregnancies do not result in the birth of a baby, and must be removed surgically or with drug treatment to protect a woman's life.

Cigarette smoking also appears to double a woman's risk of developing placental complications (which occur in about 1 percent of pregnancies). These include placenta previa, a condition in which the placenta is attached too low in the uterus and covers part or all of the cervix; and placental abruption, in which the placenta separates from the uterine wall before delivery. Both can result in a delivery that jeopardizes the life of mother and baby.

Smoking during pregnancy also increases the risk of stillbirth, miscarriage, and severe vaginal bleeding.

Smoking During Pregnancy: Risks to Your Baby
Smoking during pregnancy, which can seriously slow fetal growth, nearly doubles a woman's risk of having a baby with low birth weight. In 1998, 12 percent of babies born to smokers in the U.S. were of low birth weight, compared to 7.2 percent of babies of nonsmokers.

dude!!! I'm not gonna tell you the health risks because people have gotten on that already! But seriously??? You should stop now!! I know how hard it is to stop smoking the herb, but dude 6 months, and then when the baby is born yuo can go back if you want, whatever. And cigarettes?! I'm sure that's harder, but this is your offspring, are you prepared for deformities?? For the sake of this future sentient being stop smoking both!!! You can start again when the baby is born, but are you serious?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I never liked even the smell of ciggy smoke while pregnant. I would never smoke cigs while pregnant because it strains the baby's developing lungs. Leads to things like 2week long ICU stays after birth, lifelong asthma, horrible allergies.

As far as marijuana goes, if you must imbibe it, try not to smoke it. Drink it in a tea, eat it in a brownie, use a vaporizer. It's the SMOKE that is bad for the baby and the fact that most of us tend to hold our breath after a toke.

Also take into consideration, and I am not meaning to be rude because I was in the same boat: Are you unmarried? You're under twenty. Are you on state-aid for medical care? Will you deliver in a hospital? My daughter was drug-tested after birth because I fit those qualifications. I did smoke before she was born. I could have lost my daughter. Don't take silly chances just because you don't think you can or you don't want to change. Parenthood brings a lot of crazy changes to the plate and you can't avoid them. *hugs* it's difficult to give up, especially the cigs, but you just have to do it for the baby, ya know>?

[edit:the person above me has much better advice than I do, listen to her]

I'm not a doctor, but a friend of mine, who has a child, told me that she ocaisionally smoked weed while she was pregnant, and that her doctor told her that THC doesn't cross into the baby's blood stream. Her baby is healthy and happy as can be. She said it wasn't constant though, she definitely limited herself.

As for cigs, I wouldn't touch them if I was pregnant, in fact, I'm trying to quit right now, just for the basic health reasons.

    good luck!

well thank you. Yet I looked up that facts too and asked a doc ( Not mine tho ) The only known actual effect of smoke'n weed while preg is your child mite have a case of ADHD, and the tarr could be bad for your lungs. THC is in fact in most prenatal vits because it helps relax to the stomach so mothers to be dont feel sick 24/7. Smoke'n cigs well thats another story cause i dont smoke 24/7 only once every 2 days or so cause i get headaches.

dude you shouldn't smoke cigarettes at all! 9 months, and you smoke once every two days...that's at least 3 times a week, and at 9 months...that's like 39 cigarettes. Maybe that's nothing to an adult...but to lungs that are not even formed yet?? That's terrible! Right now, due to the environment there are increasing rates of asthma in all ages of people. Why do you want to bring a baby into the world that already has trouble breathing? (you then will have to contemplate insurance rates, which could be higher due to health reasons...idk)

If you weren't serious about the health of YOUR baby you should have contemplated an abortion. I'm not trying to be rude, I am trying to make a point. You chose to keep the baby, so grow up and make a sacrafice. As for maryjane, I'd bake it, if anything...but as hard as it might be I'd probably stop for the sake of the baby...I don't even like kids all that much, but i have sense...please think this through!!

Thats great that your baby is healthy now, I hope it stays that way.

The fact is that smoking cigarettes while pregnant has been researched and documented. Your baby may be healthy now, but one of the big problems with smoking while pregnant is Low Birth Weight... your baby may look fine now but what happened if it just stops growing next week for the rest of your term or if (god forbid) you have a miscarriage. At that point it's too late not to smoke.. For me, I would do a myriad of things I wouldn't want to do for 9 months just to ensure my baby had every chance of being the healthiest and strongest it could be.. so at that point what is the difference if it's a pack a day or 1 a month, wouldn't you want to do anything to keep your child away from that kind of carcinogen. Especially since we are talking about babies, they are susceptible to minute amounts of any drug.

I have ADD, it was not fun growing up.. I have a lot of confidence issues as a result.
I smoke, not as much anymore, maybe 2 packs a week. I know they are bad for me.. I am trying to quit before I get emphysema, which seems to run in my family.

But all this information is out there...

Tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 different chemicals. At least 43 are known carcinogens (cause cancer in humans).
Cigarettes are one of few products which can be sold legally which can harm and even kill you over time if used as intended.

Currently there are ongoing lawsuits in the USA which aim to hold tobacco companies responsible for the effects of smoking on the health of long term smokers.

    Benzene (petrol additive)
A colourless cyclic hydrocarbon obtained from coal and petroleum, used as a solvent in fuel and in chemical manufacture - and contained in cigarette smoke. It is a known carcinogen and is associated with leukaemia.

    Formaldehyde (embalming fluid)
A colourless liquid, highly poisonous, used to preserve dead bodies - also found in cigarette smoke. Known to cause cancer, respiratory, skin and gastrointestinal problems.

    Ammonia (toilet cleaner)
Used as a flavouring, frees nicotine from tobacco turning it into a gas, found in dry cleaning fluids.

    Acetone (nail polish remover)
Fragrant volatile liquid ketone, used as a solvent, for example, nail polish remover - found in cigarette smoke.

    Tar
Particulate matter drawn into lungs when you inhale on a lighted cigarette. Once inhaled, smoke condenses and about 70 per cent of the tar in the smoke is deposited in the smoker's lungs.

    Nicotine (insecticide/addictive drug)
One of the most addictive substances known to man, a powerful and fast-acting medical and non-medical poison. This is the chemical which causes addiction.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) (car exhaust fumes)
An odourless, tasteless and poisonous gas, rapidly fatal in large amounts - it's the same gas that comes out of car exhausts and is the main gas in cigarette smoke, formed when the cigarette is lit. Others you may recognize are :

Arsenic (rat poison), Hydrogen Cyanide (gas chamber poison)

My big thing is that I would like my child to start out with a clean slate... I want to try to remove all the factors at birth that might give him a problem. There will be enough environmental, social, and health problems my child will eventually have to deal with, I want to ensure that my child starts out with a clean slate.

either way my child will most likely have ADHD everybody has it in my family an my ex had it. I really would like to thank you duckandmiss cause even though you gave me that facts you did so in a positive way instead of bashing me. Well I think ill continue smoking take my chance cause i dont take my meds for Insomnia, ADHD, Manic Bipolar, & Depression because im not allowed to. Which sucks. My nerves are shot without it an I panic a whole lot less when i smoke.

Not going to harp. Just a simple thing. I agree with ceiling is the sky. I would never want to do anything to harm my child. I am a father of one beautiful little girl and while my wife was pregnant she did nothing at all. She has MS and even stopped all of her other medications. She did not even take anything for her hay fever. Just remember you are making a decision for your child right now. I am not sure what or if there are any problems with weed and pregnacy but I am of the mind that people should not smoke weed until they are 18 anyway. And I am a heavy weed user now. Your first trimester is a time that will not affect your child as much but now that the second and third are starting your baby is eating, drinking and smoking what ever you are. They best thing is not to do anything. You will get the chance to pick up the habbit again, although I don't recomend it.

you aksed for advice? I may have been harsh, but Startreken wasn't...if you didn't want advice/opinion don't ask! But keep doing what you want, but if you do it proves your ignorance and negligence to your child. I'm sorry, but please be smart!
