I wonder what everyone has been up to on HF? I've been away for a while and hope some of my friends are still here and remember me. What's been going on around here and with everybody for the last several months?
I'm giving myself rehab from both myself and society in the middle of nowhere with complete isolation and 8 hours a day of strenuous physical labour.
I've been interviewing for jobs, the one I want is in LA so it looks like I may be moving, have been training to run a 5k in April, been on a few small vacays since I am not working and have become quite the kareoke singer. What have you been up to? How's grad school?
I just started my busiest semester. I have 3 classes and a research class, a 24 hour a week internship, plus I am still working. On top of that we sold our house too early so we had to move in with my parents until our new house is finished being built. It's on schedule to be done by May. My life is in total chaos these days. OH, and my sister is getting married this september so I am in the middle of all that fun too! I'm trying to remember where you live currently. Make sure they pay you WELL because buying houses in LA is crazy. And BraveSirRubin, I know I will likely regret asking you this, but what is your strenuous physical labour?
I milk horses. Seriouly though... I do not see what to regret. I work in an agricultural greenhouse network as everyone's bitch. I help people out, lift all the heavy shit (200 pound metal tables mostly) that needs to be lifted. Package plants to ship them. Load up trucks with lots of heavy stuff. Walk around all day. Make deliveries which includes both loading and unloading an 18-wheeler once a week. Also head of security, which means I have to patrol the premise and make sure everything is closed, and shoo stupid little kids who ride dirtbikes away with a bb gun. It's not a bad job, and it's exactly what I need... (even though the pay is shiiiiiiiity)... but it's very monotonous and I do not really get to be myself at work because I work with a bunch of Mexicans most of whom do not even speak English. If I act like my crazy self, then they'll just think that I'm completely insane, and that would get me fired. So I'm usually quiet, friendly, and listen listen listen.
It's a really poor area of LA. It's really low paying so I'm gonna have to rent...which I've always been against. I've always owned, lived with my ex bf or lived at home because I am so against it...but eh what can you do? I live n san diego now so it will be cheaper up there. Wow that is really damn busy! How exciting to have everything in the house the way you want it!
My brother is tending the college greenhouse he attends, and he does some similar things, although no security. He gets to make his own hours as long as the plants are all taken care of appropriately. So, shooting kids with a bb gun must be fun! I must admit, that was a much better response than what I was expecting. no regrets!
Yeah, I heard San Diego is even MORE expensive! Wow... I found out the home we just sold here for around $150,000 would have gone for about $800,000 - a million in LA. The one we are building now would be several million to build there. It's crazy! Yeah, we got the layout finished. My husband and I took a floor plan and tweaked it how we wanted it. We REALLY love how it is coming along. This last week we have made tons of decisions. Plumbing, ductwork, electrical, speaker layout, cabinetry, fixtures, countertops: all that fun stuff. Now we will be free for a couple months and then we will get to choose room colors, carpeting, sprinkler system, yard landscaping etc. It's a fun process, but extremely time consuming, and with both of us being so unable to make decisions, it has been high pressure for us! So far, we have most of the money decisions finished and we are still under our goal, so we are pretty excited. Plus living with my parents now has allowed us to save a LOT of money for furnishings. I can't wait!
Nahh...I don't shoot 'em. I scare them away. I would never shoot anything, not even an ant. They are some spoiled kids though... damn 16 year olds are destroying all the roads on the property with their dirt bikes and their parents don't want to do anything about it. Damn rich people.
Can you block off the property? Can the police do anything to help? And don't damn ALL the rich people, just the one's that take advantage of they wealth and don't use it for positive things too.
Yeah it's gorgeous but I can't afford to live by myself here and never will be so that's a bit depressing. My mom bought her home in 1991 for 150k and now it's worth at least 700k and it's only 3 bedrooms! It's really maddening to have to think about moving if I ever want to be financialy secure, but what are ya going to do? That sounds soooooooo fun! What did you pick out for the kitchen?
