I hope that was a joke, because it might be the most ignorant ass thing I've ever heard.

Katrina hasn't killed a hundred thousand people, I think I've heard 60...and the United States, being the most affluent nation on earth, and having very good emergency relief programs such as FEMA, doesn't need massive international aid to rebuild it's infrastructure.

The impoverished nations of Southeast asia lost so much in the Tsunami, and I'm not trying to demean this storm, but it doesn't compare to the havoc brought to the tsunami.

Why do people have to make these comparisons when distasters occur??

When London was bombed, there were comparisons that dubbed it London's 911. People questioning which was worse, comparing the death toll and destruction.

Its a shame period what happened with Katrina and the tsunami that occured in South East Asia. Stop fucking comparing and complaining. And keep in mind that the American government, although in trillions of debt, has more releif to provide than the South Asian countries such as Thailand and Indonesia.

By the way, Ive heard many calling into radio stations over here asking how they can help and send relief funds. So maybe you should stop youre ignorant generalisations and absurd comparisions. Its such a bigot thing to do, the tsunami was of a much greater magnitude.

    Whats that supposed to mean?

Well thats what I heard this morning, the death toal will probably be in the hundreds, with billions of dollars in damages.

But it still ignores the obvious fact that we're the richest country on earth, and have substantial organizations to relieve this disaster who have been preparing for this for years.

Southeast Asia was very poor, and the Tsunami devestated to the region. The comparison is irrelevant, and to ask international humanitarian organizations to donate money while there are many better ways for them to use it is ludicrious. We have the resources to handle this.

    The hell Lodui?

That region has some of the fastest growing economies on Earth. Indonesia and Thailand sure as hell do have resources. New Orleans is pretty much a third world backwater with many of its residents in poverty.

I think it quite telling that sure FEMA might toss in some bottled water but for all intents and purposes we have a gigantic humanitarian disaster and if this had happened in ANY other country there'd have been donations, the UN, etc. showing up in droves. Yet the USA is expected to give but rarely gets anything back in return.

I mean look at the French. They spit on the USA after 9/11 and about Iraq but they were sure as hell glad to see the Marines hit the beach at Normandy weren't they, the surrendering cheese eating garlic-breathed bastards.

Southeast Asian economies are growing pretty rapidly, but much of the money is also outsourced, and the people there lived in huts, and didn't have any notice of the Tsunami before it hit.

A person in poverty in Lousianna is generally adjusted as wealthy for living in Southeast Asia.

Once again, I'm not trying to belittle the affects of this storm, but the USA doesn't need humanitarian aid to deal with this crisis. We already have the infrastructure in place to deal with a disaster like this, and we shouldn't be sticking our hands out when it isn't nessecary.

The USA should be very generous, and shouldn't ask for foriegn aid when it isn't nessecary, there will be many people left without homes, and millions without power, but this is nowhere near in proportion to the Tsunami.

Hey, I hate the French government as much as any patriot, but that seems moot when it comes to disaster relief. Diverting international relief from places where it is more needed *such as Niger and The Sudan* would be unnescacary considering we can provide enough aid here.

Hollywood North is just a nickname for the city I live in

I dont really care if others dont know this and assume that I live in Cali. Anyways, it was obvious from what I posted that I wasnt in the states seeing that I was talking about support from outside the states.
