"Danish paper rejected Jesus cartoons

Jyllands-Posten, the Danish newspaper that first published the cartoons of the prophet Muhammad that have caused a storm of protest throughout the Islamic world, refused to run drawings lampooning Jesus Christ, it has emerged today.

The Danish daily turned down the cartoons of Christ three years ago, on the grounds that they could be offensive to readers and were not funny. In April 2003, Danish illustrator Christoffer Zieler submitted a series of unsolicited cartoons dealing with the resurrection of Christ to Jyllands-Posten."

personally I would be happy to see such cartoons, there are lots of drawings films plays around europe that christians find offensive , if your saying that western media in general is unfair to muslims .

I dont think thats true ive yet to see a monty pythons life of mohammed or mustafa, or a show like the jerry springer show that had jesus dressed in a nappy saying he was gay.

how do you feel about shia having drawings of mohammed, or the fact that in the past muslim leaders have commissioned drawings of mohammed , but we have all this fuss about some cartoons in denmark .

 

That's because Jyllands-Posten is a right-wing, conservative christian paper. I'm also dissatisfied that they don't wanna bring satire towards christianity & Jesus.

That's why I don't keep Jyllands-Posten - I keep another paper named Information. I've never said that I like Jyllands-Posten - I just defend its right to exist. We've got a free press.

I would love to see cartoons showing Jesus with an erected penis and Mary masturbating with a crucifix. And that, despite I consider myself christian. I wouldn't have any problem with such, because that's simply the circumstances living in a free country.

Free speech does't mean insult everyone, it just means that you can print what you want to, and obviously they didn't feel like printing jesus...










I obviously just offended chritianity, catholism and islam.... Why would a muslim be the only one to get offended by this?

For years now there's been loads of stuff taking the piss out of Christianity being published. 100 years ago in alot of Catholic countries to print such stuff would've landed one in jail or with a beating by angry Christians. We've come along way since then, hopefull the Muslim world can make that step aswell. Muslims should worry about being good muslims themselves and not about making the rest of the world good muslims. It's the main problem also with the crazy anti-abortion christians. They are to busy trying to impose their way on other people. Worship your own god who ever that may be, try and be a good christian/muslin/buddhist/hindu/jew and get on with your life.

To see the latest creation from conservative t-shirt maker MetroSpy some would think the Muslim world had every right to be upset. MetroSpy’s new t-shirts depict an unflattering caricature of the prophet Mohammed with a bomb on his head.

The controversial cartoon, which first ran in European newspapers, has outraged Muslims around the world because Islamic tradition forbids a graphic depiction of the Prophet Mohammed.

Many in the U.S however, are angered by the violence being displayed by extreme Islamic protesters — torching buildings, desecrating flags and in some cases even killing people. Annoyed by the violent images broadcast from the Middle East, MetroSpy decided to sell t shirts with the controversial caricature emblazoned across the front.

“We can’t let the terrorists win. We can not encourage this uncivilized behavior by caving in to their wishes,” said Nate Thomas, product manager for MetroSpy

On their website (http://www.shopmetrospy.com/), MetroSpy denounces the tactics of Islamic extremists and encourages its customers to stand up against terrorism. “Failing to print these images mean the terrorists have won”, the site says.

“We wanted a simple way to exercise our freedom of speech and to stand up to the terrorists. This design was perfect,” said Thomas.

So far, the Mohammed t-shirt has become their best selling item of the year — more than 120 orders the first day it became available.

Critics of the Mohammed t-shirts say this is a perfect example of why Americans are hated around the world. Finding humor in the desecration of another’s religious symbol, even if you disagree, is just plain wrong.

Despite the critics, MetroSpy intends to keep selling the Mohammed cartoon t-shirts.

I was told about these shirts .....No soul on the surface of Earth can dare to wear the shirt and go outside , but could see that as a selling point

Some people speak like if my whole country was some big (small), dirty conspiration.
As if all danes are just having the same opinion on this. As if there's no nuances within these opinions. As if there's no debate going on in my country at all about this. As if the muslim community in Denmark don't have a voice at all in this debate.
As if we're just one homogenic population of smiling blond people who play the harmonica all the time while dancing in circles wearing funny wiking helmets. Come on, "60 minutes" - drop your stereotypical fairytales, if you want to be regarded as a news media based on valid sources of good journalism...!!! :-/

One thing is what you hear from "60 minutes", another thing is what you hear from people living here, that are not reporters been transported by planes to stay here for a few hours before leaving again...

It's my understanding that the Danes are one of the most peaceful peoples on earth, well apart from Stig Tofting . Double standards are physically attacking and killing in the name of God (Allah).

I think he's retired now, but he did play for Bolton Wanderers. He was mean, and I loved watching him get into trouble, you're right he wouldn't make a good ambassador. Him and Thomas Gravesen used to dominate the Danish midfield. Great times, I love soccer .

Btw, you have to get into soccer for the World Cup this summer, Denmark have a great chance of doing well, they battered us recently.

 

Oh yes, indeed I will watch some World Cup. I just don't watch Champions League, etc.
