It's a Faux News video... It's all speculation about how terrorists can hack into your car and crash it... Faux News causing panic over nothing.

 

I don't know why terrorists would want to disable passenger cars. Maybe to create huge traffic jams?

But the authorities have had the ability to disable vehicles for the past few years. If On Star can do it so can the government.

I foresee an increase in auto restoration in the future as computers take over modern cars.

Honestly I dont know why there hasn't been a movement back to older restored cars already.

 

Hot rodders do it... Many of the good ones are already smashed, melted down and and turned back into steel.

Actually law enforcement has been able to take control of a car using the Norstar system since 2008. So really this isn't that big of a jump.

The only thing Fox news is doing is claiming Al Qaeda can do it in order to keep public form seeing that NSA is capable of doing it.

Oh come on now. Look at the extent that these spooks are willing to go to *exert their authority* After that see if you can honestly tell me they wouldn't have figured out a way to take control of someones car?

Fox news is the yankie propoganda machine. I thought it was pretty common knowledge in today's world that if Fox news say's look "Left" everyone should look "Right". These blokes are so crooked that by comparison Simon Amstell would be considered straight.

 

If you're going 80 on the freeway and your motor dies, a crash could be very likely.

But then you've got these new cars coming out with assisted parking, where a computer takes control of the car and parallel parks it for you. With these cars the government, or any hacker that knows what he's doing, could theoretically run your car off the road.

...not what you think they might do.

A hacker being able to run a car off the road or cause a major accident - multiple car pile-up - is something to think about.

The 'government' crashing cars off the road, potentially killing the occupants, is a whole other matter.
I would imagine we would have heard of an incident by now.

 

Just because something hasn't happened doesn't mean it can't happen. Before I saw your post I edited mine to include the word 'theoretically.'

When the system used as its designed, I'm sure it's a safe slowdown and no one would get hurt. But the safeguards are all computer programming, and when a computer has the ability to start/stop an engine, take control over steering and breaking, etc. those safeguards can be bypassed with the right equipment and knowledge.
