Aahhahah prepare to be cursed at by many angry hippies now... I buy my clothes at thrift stores or I make them, sometimes vintage shops. Woo.
I dont care what anyones says i dress nice becuase i work and pay for my own shit. Hell i may go to Banana Republic and buy a 60 dollar tie to wear on the rare occasions i wear a suit.
ahahh hey thats cool with me. a lot of other people on here are weird about that stuff tho.. if you've got it, flaunt it.
i love thrift shops but the ones around here are *really* shitty. I buy most of my tops and skirts on ebay.....lots of unique handmade and vintage stuff for good prices. And for pants I usually hit up just any old store....I'm picky about how I like my pants to fit so anywhere I find the perfect pair is where I buy them. the local head shop has cute stuff but they're expensive.
umm i used to shop at ross and tjmaxx alot..not really anymore . i usualy get my clothes from cool cheap thrift stores in san diego/L.A when my family visits down there every month or so. all my clothes have 2 costs under 10 dollars..imma cheapskate ok, i have 2 doors shirts that costed like 15 bucks..but thats it
I make most of my own clothes, or get em on eBay, cos I'm cheap like that. Hoooowevah, I do have a few of the "oops" Patagonia and Gramicci things, because I like the gussested crotch for bouldering. The few shirts I have I got for free from climbing comps or for super cheap from Goodwill. And to the original poster: I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I'm just wondering why on earth you pay $60 for a tie when you can get one that looks exactly the same for $10 from like a department store? I never really understood this, but I've never got the chance to ask before, either, so, hey!
I buy (from other sweet independant artists) or make most of my clothes.. Except jeans... My jeans must fight just right so I get them where ever i can find them unfortunatly its usually sears (arggg 50 bucks for a pair)
I LOVE Ross! Not as pretty and organized as regular department stores, but there's always great stuff at insanely great prices if you're willing to dig in a bit, and I can usually find most of what I need. Pants are a different issue, so like Elle and Faerie, I usually have to go to Jcpenney/Kohls/Sears-type places to find something that even remotely fits.
I make all of my own clothes. I think it's a little harder for guys to get professional/career looking homemade clothing- I don't knock anyone that buys from stores, just buy responsibly.
I volunteer at a thrift store, get first choice of wondrful items, sell alot on e-bay. thats the only way to get the really good stuff.
I buy mine from charity shops and make them I never buy from gap or sports shops because of the sweat shops. I first found out about sweat shops when i was in year 9 (about 13 years old) and ever since have avoided such places. If i own anything from those companies it was either bought before i was 13 or from a charity shop so as my money does not go to them.
I dig ross too! I got black and Pink chucks there for $12 I havent been in a while but mos def. if I dig I find a shitload of stuff! I used to buy all my work clothes there when I wasnt self employed HAHA Now I make stuff and I actually had to buy a pair of pants at the maternity store HAHAHAHA mine are getting too tight!! I really like Jeans from Delias and Alloy catalog but I havent been able to afford them or fit into them lately so I havent bought any Jeans at all this year. I don't shop at gap or j. crew because I never find anything I like. i am picky about clothes...........................
I acquire clothes however I can. I HATE the mall. I avoid the place at all costs. Something about it gives me a bad vibe. I don't buy clothes very often, but usually it's ebay or thrift stores...I like unique clothing much better than mass produced clothing.
i love making my own stuff. when i don't have time to do that (which is pretty much all the time right now) i like seeing what the handmade sites have to offer when i have the cash and feel like treating myself. (ingridpants.com and fullmoonfamily.com are two that i have ordered from lately and been *completely* happy with) i really don't buy much clothing from ebay anymore. especially the really low priced stuff. for the most part (in my experience) you really never know what you are going to get. handmade clothing takes a lot of time and if someone is letting something go for super cheap i always think there has to be a reason for it. on the other hand i know some of you mamas sell your stuff on ebay, and i have loved the stuff you've posted here. i also have noticed that most of you tend to start your auctions out more up towards where they belong. i think you can get a pretty good sense of how much time and love went into the item through the auction, i just don't trust 2 dollar handmade pants. and yes i love old navy. i love the plain perfect fit tshirts and tank tops - i love that they don't have the brand name on them, you can get them in any color, they fit great, and they are cheap. and i've bought both the pairs of jeans i own there as well.
I get my clothes from countless little shops, mostly a shop called The Spotted Pony. I buy jeans from Mervyn's, which sucks because I hate malls. But I don't make clothes anymore, because I suck at sewing, so I just buy whatever I like in whichever stores I find.
I usually do my clothing shopping at JCPenney's, Dillards, Old Navy, New York Line, Lerner's, Express, and Kohl's (although I haven't been too thrilled with Kohl's clothing quality lately so I'm not sure how much longer, if at all, I'll be frequenting there). But I'm all about learning to make some clothing as well, such as dresses and skirts. I would love to do that. The way I see it is, sure I may have to spend a bit more at some of those stores for clothing, but the thing is, the clothes hold up much longer. Do you know how many times I have to wash clothes around my house? How many times I put on a shirt for mybe 5-10 minutes and one of my kids maul me with sticky hands or I get milk all over me? I can't stay clean. *lol* Then it's to the wash again. Cheaper clothing just can't stand up to a lot of washings, it fades quickly, and it tends to lose it's shape (especially shirts). I would rather pay a little more for something and have it last than to buy something cheap that won't hold up for long, and end up having to go and shell out more money for clothing because it's falling apart. I have some tops that I purchased from Express 10 years ago that are still in beautiful condition, and they have been washed and worn many, many times. I might have paid a little more for them, but look at how long they've held up. In the end, I probably spent less money than going somewhere and buying something cheaper that I would have to replace within a short period of time. P.S. I have to admit however, that I rarely shop for clothing for myself. I feel too guilty spending money when I don't really need to. I only buy when needed for the most part. Okay, okay, I splurged and bought some earrings the other day that I didn't need, but I rarely do that.
