i was just curious as to why you grow organically (or through soil) as opposed to hydroponically?

Actually most potting soils are soiless and use either peat moss or barks as mulch. In organic growing a bioculture seems to promote good tastes. Often hydroponic growers use artificial fertilizers but some use organic feeds in their systems.

I favor either organic method and in fact I encourage any method you choose. My area of expertise is growing in soil both indoors and outdoors. Most cannabis clubs pay the least for outdoor grown and the most for the organic indoor grown.

The reason I teach begineers to start in soil is multifold. Its cheaper and simpler for starting out and the product can't be exceeded by other methods. Take if from me and many of my Breeder friends that you just can't beat indoor organic for beautiful, tasty, potent buds. Whatever strain you grow the breeder loves to see it done with the TLC required to do it the old fashioned way.

Good soil mix can be purchased from Foxfarm and I recommend Ocean Forest of their blends. Light Warrior by the same company can be used in conjunction to lighten the ocean forest mix. Foxfarm also makes Light Warrior and it has beneficial rooting enhancers already in it. It's too light for a total mix of itself but layering a top layer on your pots makes a good combination.

So in summary, my book, "Bonanza of Green" is geared for the newbie or person considering starting a small grow. It can be done as big as you like however. :)

Hydroponic growing does require a bit more learning and equipment but it does have it's advantages. Yield and less dirt to haul. Please don't be offended by my opinions but unless you are a large commercial grower I see no advantage to hydroponics. BOG

but minus the cost of the lights, fans, plants, seeds, etc how much would you suggest it cost for just the growing medium (soil ingredients, pots, nutes etc)?

btw is your book being sold at places like b&n, i dunno i tried odering it in but they said they never heard of it

My book is cheapest at www.fsbookco.com but it is also found on amazon at a slightly higher price.

That stuff is the cheap stuff, the lights and electricity as well as seeds or clones cost way more. The amount you spend depends on the size you want but the more you spend the more you make so it's a win win situation to grow for it! :)

just got your book and finished it not bad, it does go hand in handwith cervantes bible. i like the breakdown you give, very simple, and easy. i suprised that you dont use wormcastings seaweed(liquid) or bat guano. also i was surprised you dont use organic fertilizer teas

Foxfarm BigBloom is an already prepared tea and it has bat guano as does pure blend grow. I just buy prepared soils and add some perlite, bone meal and blood meal. It works great but I am all for other mixes because there are many ways to skin a cat of course. The advantage of bat guano is that it produces fruity tastes in buds according to Soma and I agree that it's great stuff. As far as worm castings a % is great.

My mix is a simple mix for anyone to make from any potting soil actually.

Just placed my order BOG w/ fsbookco. Looking forward to it. I'm going to start in my basement (furnace should provide some co2 for me), soil, maybe 4-8 plants to start.

Do you have any reccomendations for seed places? I've heard good things about Doc.

Doc has provided safe delivery for many so make sure he can ship to you if you choose him. He is one I recommend amongst others but choose for yourself. :) BOG
