ok, you dont have to list your favorite movie. thats too hard for most people.

but list some of your favorites

a few of my all time favorites, in no order

Coffee And Cigarettes Jim Jarmusch, 2003

a wonderful series of vignettes. some hysterically funny, some drab everyday experiences, some uncomfortable meetings of people who haven't seen each other in some time. its brilliant, in my opinion.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb Stanley Kubrick, 1964

intensely dark humor, this film deals with an apocolyptic cold war disaster. social comentary and plenty of drama, its still hilarious. this is the classic film in which slim pickens rides a nuclear bomb to its target. while it is heavily comedic in an extremely dark and dry sense, it is shockingly close to a VERY real possibility, in more ways than one would care to imagine.

    The Shining Stanley Kubrick, 1980

one of the best horror movies ever made, and in fact in my opinion one of the best films ever made at all. it's greatness speaks for itself.

    Kill Bill, Vols. 1 & 2 Quentin Tarantino, 2003 and 2004

a masterpiece of over the top gore, a combination of many diverse movie genres. its subtle humor and intense drama are punctuated with epic fight scenes. "the showdown at the house of blue leaves" in volume one takes over half an hour, and features some of the most brilliantly choreographed action in recent american film history. this film introduced the now widely hated japanese girl band the 5,6,7,8's to the west.

    Repulsion Roman Polanski, 1965

this classic psychological thriller depicts a single young woman's descent into madness over the course of several days of near total isolation. while not the scariest horror movie ever created, it contains some very creepy imagery and plot ideas.

The Dark Crystal Jim Henson, 1982

this is a wonderful fantasy movie by master puppeteer jim henson (creator of the muppet show and the labyrinth). this is the type of fantasy movie i love - too dark for a small child, but not so "adult" as to be inappropriate for children (no gory violence, no sex, nothing downright frightening to a grown up, just not suitable for every child out there). the wonderfully rendered special effects are never computer generated, and the film features absolutely NO human characters, a step away from the norm for jim henson

Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels Guy Ritchie, 1998

a comedic british heist movie of incredible proportions. the intricate details of the plot may be hard for some to grasp at the first watching, but this is an amazing film that everyone should give a chance.

I also loved appocolypto despite all the negative stigma that surrounded it

I love how they would say "journey safe" to the dying.

    how ... wise.

i will be watching blade runner for school before the semester is over. my dorm's library also has eraserhead and thx1138, both of which i've wanted to watch for some time now.

though i didnt mention them, 2001 and a clockwork orange also are among my favorites. though as much as i love kubrick, i didn't want my list to overly favor him, so i'm glad you mentioned these.

jacob's ladder i've also been meaning to see.

all in all, a good list. not a huge fan of the matrix, but i don't dislike it, either.

eternal sunshine was also incredibly well made, but i really don't think i'll ever watch it again. ever.

Yes, that was very good. Lots of predictive programming in that, too.

feel free to link to clips, trailers, whatever.

if you love these movies, give others some reason to watch them, more than just a title :D

absolutely, stalk. What a great moive...great theme, great feel, great plot, great cinematography and great direction.

It doesn't have that Hollywood 'slick' feel to it...which is very welcomed and appreciated.

Highly recommend this...espically to Pressed Rat. LoOL

thanks for contributing!! but this is the only thing i'm reluctant to watch a clip from, since i am dead sure i'll watch it anyway. its been on my list for some time now, and i have easy access to it. as soon as i'm caught up with watching movies i've bought but not yet seen, i'm getting it from the library.

    i'll watch anyway though
