Ok, so ive tried op many ocasions to make my dreadlock tips nice and round, and just when i think theyre perfect, tight and round on the tipis, i end up washing my hair, and the knots completely fall apart, or from rubbing itagainst my palm, i end up damaging the hair at the tip and pieces break!, does anybody have any tips that could help me achieve rounded tips?

When I started my dreads and had elastics in them for a while, I accidentally left one on one of my dread tips, with the tip folded back on itself. After a couple of months this became a "perfectly rounded" tip and I cut the band out. I then cut the tip open coz I didn't want them like that :p But as a technique it would've been pretty good since it didn't involve any effort or repetitive movements breaking hairs.

Maybe you could do something similar but replace the elastic with something more sightly like twine.

Ok, well my dreads are 7 months old, and i dont really "need" them that way as such, i just really like the look of a nice phat round dread, and ive tried everything even what you said with the elastic, my dreads are all tightening and knotting up nicely, but the ends just seem impossible, i think its more the fact that i cant do it thats pissing me off :S

have u tried grabbing your dread about 2 or 3 cm from the tip..then swirling it around in a circular pattern on your palm...for as long as it takes(not long)...should create a puffy wad at the tip... Leave it or palm role it a little.

there's nothing you can do to make the tips round. the more you try, the more you are preventing them from rounding off. dreads round at the tips because, over time, they rub against things like your body, hats, your pillow, etc. once they're long enough to reach your shoulders, they'll really start to do this (at least that's what i've noticed).

i've been letting my hair lock up on it's own and i dont have a single dread that doesnt have a rounded tip on it. that's because they've been able to do whatever they need to.

one of the easiest shapes for nature to make is a circle/sphere (think of a raindrop, or the planets and other stars). if left alone, your dreads WILL round off. just stop messing with them.
