Sometimes i watch south park but i don't know if i like it or not...i think not but im not so sure...
you really should make up your own mind on this but since you asked, i say yay. for the most part i like it. the social commentary can be quite outrageously funny and relevant.
no, what i said was i could care less about it. not enough to be repulsed by it, just bored by its triteness.
It's just more of the brainwashing. I downloaded all 10 seasons of it and watched it for a couple of weeks. It's not interesting, really...It tries to get each member of the audience to feel like he or she is in on the joke, but in order for that to be true, the audience member will have to at least partially accept the point of view of the cartoonists in whatever situation. Those who are willing to do that without questioning it much and who like to feel like they're in on a joke seem to enjoy it quite a bit. They even argue with me that South Park presents fair discussion on issues. Well, ok. Well done, Trey and Matt.
Yeah, sure...As long as they can make you believe that, you'll buy into what they're selling. But they certainly do spend a lot of time arguing political issues stupidly. It's mostly just the same stuff you get from everything on TV...globalist neo-liberal corporatism. Just because it doesn't clearly endorse a political party doesn't mean it's not making a strong political statement. Democrats and Republicans agree on more issues than they disagree upon. Those points of agreement amount to a totalitarian government that appears to allow open debate, but actually limits debate to only certain issues. South Park is meant to convince younger people that both political parties are correct on those points on which they agree by comparing personal freedom to corporate freedom and contrasting personal responsibility with government responsibility.
I believe you delve to deep into it. Shows on television will always have a side trying to get you to agree with thier views. I watch southpark with the mindset of having a laugh or two. Not to learn about current events. Its just a tv show for christs sake, enjoy it, or dont. But don't go making a comical cartoon show something more than it is.
Alright, I'll accept your advice. But consider mine, too: don't be so passive about what you let into your brain. The stuff that goes in without you noticing it or thinking much about it, and keeps going in steadily, has a bigger effect on you than you know. Having a laugh does not mean disconnecting your critical thinking...in fact, good comedy will engage your critical thinking. I wish they taught more about philosophy in high school. It's always useful, when considering any work, to ponder what the intentions of the creator were, why the creator chose to put the work together in just that way and what the effects of the work have been on yourself and others. You may say that Trey and Matt are not being at all careful in the construction and content of their shows, but after 10 plus years, I kinda doubt it. They're not goofing and riffing on the playground, here. They're running a multi-million dollar operation to draw in an audience to sell to advertisers. The advertisers are their customers, and they want to please their customers.
One of the biggest things spiritual enlightenment has taught me is free thinking. I ALWAYS think for myself and initially doubt anything im told. TV does nothing to promote free thinking, it does the exact opposite, and I see that. Im just pointing out a fat whiney kid with an anal probe making a school bully eat his parents in a bowl of chili has quite a bit of comical value, and isnt trying to brainwash or convince people of anything.
I can't believe how serious people are getting over Southpark. It was created by two stoners who like to make fun of shit. Definitely a yay for me. I love SouthPark.
