We are interested in starting an intentional community in Wyoming in the future. I read a thread on this same subject that went nowhere, and ended long ago. Was no one really that serious about it? We would like to start a strict vegetarian based community with strong emphasis on continuing education for both children and adults, complete community independence, openness with regard to religion (and anything else legal) with no prejudice, or illegal drugs/activity. We can afford a small acreage site ourselves, but depending on how many others are interested in this community, we would like others to invest in the community as well, so the commune would have a much larger acreage. All of us living on the land would be expected to spend some time in labor, creating housing, farming, etc., Also, as education would be one of the founding building blocks of the community, we would make some time for higher educational pursuits as well; that being mostly whatever appeals to the individual, but with mandatory basic classes (such as would be needed in a community, like CPR and first aid for all, ensuring all members of the community could read, etc). The final parameters of the commune would be settled by all members of the community, and the contract for the land and all community assets would be in the name of the community, as to protect it for the future. Wyoming has a lower unemployment rate as compared to the rest of the country, and is suffering less from the depressed economy. Anyone interested in helping to begin?
I've been doing plumbing work for the last four years. I've got a year of electrical work under my belt and have picked up a few carpentry ticks as well. I can get just about anything running that is broke. I can double the amount of potatoes a plant puts out. I built my own geothermal system for my little shop and a passive solar heater. I'm working on a 1 kilowatt windmill right now but I've been out of work almost this whole year and things aren't looking good. Is there anything I can do for you ?
