So the way it's sectioning off in the front (and also the back) is what's supposed to happen at first? How long does it take to go from sections to knotting up a bit?

I think that totally depends on your hair- you can't compare your dread journey to someone elses

i think it also has alot to do with how you sleep. for instance, i am a side-sleeper. so i have NO dreads at all at the back of my hair but bunches starting to form at my temples and along the side of my face. the look is quite comical, actually. LOL. my daughter, who sleeps on her back, gets baby dreadies overnight no problem because she constantly moves in her sleep, causing friction between the back of her head and her mattress and wakes up with a few natural mats every morning. lol. i comb them out though, i think i'll let her make her own decision to have dreads later in life. hahaha:)

anyway, just my thoughts on that.

if you want your knots to show progress at a faster rate. Hang upside down from the washing line and smere a bit of honey into your hair. The bee's will come and get the honey from your hair and as they do they will make little tiny knots.

When I first started I did this once a day... however.. I suggest twice of not three times a day for you

I'm not sure if it's the quality of the pics or my pc, but I cant see the detail very well. Looks good for only your first week though, seems there is a bit of clumping happening.

Yeah, sorry about the quality. For now I'm just using photobooth on my mac using the built in camera, since I figured that would be better than using my phone. Actually, I'm gonna take a couple with my phone and see if they're any better.

I think the camera phone would work best nera a window with natural light. But I have on say in this because I only hvae a webcam at the moment and it is royally crap!!

Unfortunately, I'm on the first floor in my dorms and my window looks out at a bunch of bushes that block off most of the light that isn't already blocked by the hurricane blinds there.

For some reason, I just woke up this morning and looked at my hair, and it looks like I lost all the progress I had made somehow. Sleeping should have make it look more messy, not less. I feel like maybe I'm subconsciously running my fingers through it in my sleep. Idk what happened.

so put a hat on at night
    and stop stressing so much
I am saying this because I was totally stressing out last week about my dreads and it doesn't do any good, believe me

You aren't going to notice the progression soon.
Don't even pay attention to it for like a month.
Neglect takes a pretty damn long time. As how I did mine, I woke up one day with a tiny one, and took about 4 months to notice a few more.

you should go camping for a month or so... get in touch with nature and your natural self. once you get an idea of what patience means, then you will also know progress, dread.

keep faith in jah, he will bless you with all that you need.

I agree with wearing a hat at night. Find a nice wool toque to wear. =)
