I figured all you veg-heads might have a better chance of seeing this here... I've been craving brown rice and steamed veggies for a while now (I'm not talking about anything fancy - just some carrots, brocolli, zuchinni, onion, and celery. It just sounds so good!), but I only have 1 saucepan these days, and no veg steamer. It seems like since the rice is steaming also, I could just add the veg toward the end of the steam?
I've never done it this way, so I'm nervous about just jumping into it. I guess if I don't get a response by the time I'm making dinner I'll just do the rice first, separately, and then just put a little water in the veg and steam em that way. I can live with a little bit of sogginess!

Yeah it works, its how I survived the first year and a half of school.

Cook the rice with a little more water (like 1/4 cup more) and throw in the veggies when the rice is almost done.

you could also get a rice cooker.
I got one for Christmas and use it all the time. It cooks rice perfectly and also steams. Mine is small. You can get a 16 cup one for $20 and a smaller one for cheaper. Just an idea. I love mine, that's why I suggest it :)
