Do you think that people who are not a part of the younger group that takes drugs and/or smokes pot stereotypes the group? If so, what kind of thoughts do you think they have about the group of young hippies? i think being young and in some way similar to the hippies of the sixties is what makes up the young hippies doing drugs doesnt matter. i have had some people tell me they are hippies because they like to smoke and then i went to their house and they had like mounds and mounds of name brand things and nothing in there was "hippie" nor did they have any reason to be called a hippie beyond the drug use. i dont think of those people as hippies, young or old.
Honorseed ... I think you just made a stereotype. You threw in the part about doing drugs/smoking weed ... but that has NOTHING to do with being a hippie at all! I was a hippie since middle school, although I didn't smoke weed until I was 19 years old. Marijuana had no influence on me or my decisions to be a peace promoting, tye-dye wearing, culture jammer. None whatsoever.
josh i dont think you have to wear tie dye to be a hippie for me its a spiritual thing. your soul sends out an aura (i think thats how you spell it) and people in touch with it/you can sense your being and your identity. if that makes sense. hippie is just a label to describe it and make it easier for people (gotta group things together or something, i guess)
This is somthing I was thinking about at work last night ... I really hate the word hippie. I think it has alot of negativity associated with it. I mean yes ... love and peace, but to the majority it means, dirty, druggie, and poor. I really wanna start a new word to call OUR generation who follows the old school hippie principals. And not neo-hippie either.
meanwhile some 12 yr old girl is gonna wake up and think, I sure like those guys that hang 2 gether in athe apartment across the street, those guys are 'cool'. When I get older I wanna be just like them. 'Cool' is a stereotype cuz some of them may be theives. Yeah, poor and dirty is another stereotype too KV4P........ so is lazy and 'thinks they know it all'........ I wasn't even gonna put the word hippie in the question, it was an afterthought and I do really believe there is more variety wit the clothes worn than any other group. flooperblubbies sounds okay to me hehe 'The power of love rathur than the 'love of power' brings peace to this humble abode right now.' peace unto ye Honor Seed
I was thinking more like culture jammers ... But we can bang on drums and strum guitars while were jamming the man.
intersesting statement, I see the people who stereotype others as having a complete lack of creativity in a way. 'The power of love rathur than the 'love of power' brings peace to this humble abode right now.' peace unto ye Honor Seed
yeh. but the fact is... it closes up the boundaries participating in a certain type of stereotype... Society sucks... not because I am a hippie and I want to rebel, but simply because there is no more such thing as being unique, someone TRUE, someone SINCERE!!!... You can easily tell, or at least assume the identity of some one simply by looking at his or her appearance. When I ask questions to strangers, I can ALREADY figure out their answers, not because I read minds, but because they emanate who they wanna be... throughout what they look like and throughout their way of life, and throughout what's around them. Hippies all have something in common, but they make that "something" into an extreme, wether its showing their identity by dreads and ragged clothes or fat spliffs. Hippies all love nature, they're all "open-minded" (so they say)... if youre a hippie and chill with 5 other hippies... you'll most likely like it... but come on... wtf, 6 people alike... Is that what we really want? for everyone to be mind-like, and be completely ignorant? People no longer connect with eachother via them simply being, but via something that makes them all the same. Well, that's a bummer! People are afraid to be what they really are ye know... but in a way I understand them for that... because once you're what you really are, hek, what WE really are, your perception and grip of reality will woooooooom... completely fuckin change.
And you know what's the similarity stuck in all stereotypes? Joy Who here hates to be called a hippie? no one... it brings joy to you, maybe not physically, but psychologically, it brings you a feeling of being, artificial being, and also a feeling of belonging and happiness, and of course you find the culture you are following either to be hip or cool. Or else Id doubt you would of bought those groovy pants and nag champa for nothing. Its joy, its what we all seek. But its brought in the most unnatural way possible. *Note to self: I have nothing against anyone or anything or any stereotype, if one chooses to do so... and sees great success in life by doing so. WONDERFUL I say... But those past lines were merely a personal reflection... And I have perhaps grown tired of ... growing, with artificial feelings and emotions.
All I thought of was the aborigine tribe that was discovered that had no previous contact with civilized society. When they were aware of society, they started to lose what we call culture. Society is like that Pacman game, you run around eating as many ideas as you can before you get eaten yourself. hahaha 'The power of love rathur than the 'love of power' brings peace to this humble abode right now.' peace unto ye Honor Seed
stereotypes are insulting in my opinion because by stereotyping someone you are giving them restrictions. No one fits in a box, take everyone as an individual and you will be very surprised
from what I'm hearing from people, I'm stereotyped by about everyone on this road as someone who allows 'druggies' to come here. I don't do drugs any more, been about 2 years. I find people who do drugs to be a lot more friendly in general than my neighbors. But thinking about it Scary Mary and her clan next door do drugs and so does the neighbor on the other side, at least they did when I still talked to them a couple of years ago. I don't feel boxed in at all by others false impressions of me. In fact I feel liberated. I really feel compassion for these people who live near me and don't think life sucks at all. Well I'm off topic really......what I wondered was what you think about the emotions people have about you before they even take the time to have a decent friendly conversation? Do you think people 'judge a book by its cover' to much? 'The power of love rathur than the 'love of power' brings peace to this humble abode right now.' peace unto ye Honor Seed
yes it does happen that people "judge a book by its cover" too much. mostly in the elders. Honestly, i think that ALOT. take me for example, people who dont know me think im the guy the most stoned theres ever been... i know i dont really look "there" and stuff... but people who dont know me think im a dropout who smokes dope all day... when they realize im going in science program in college they always go "ohhh. really!?" well "Ya rly" this to say as well... drugs dont make you stupid.... you make you stupid. the elders are right at something, i did do a lot of dope... doesnt stop me from being good at school and at work though ... actually somehow helps. I WANNA learn... I wanna suck on every part of knowledge out there.
