It's gettin pretty old but about every other day we're under a storm watch or warning. At the moment we're under a tornado warning. There are tornados in the air or on the ground all around our area. Schools closed and emergency centers have been set up in all the local counties. Guess we're all scared after Joplin got wiped out.

How many of the rest of you are living in this tornado zone? Seems like perhaps the worst season we've had in years. Hope all of you are safe tonight. Take Care.

I'm not anywhere near the Midwest, but last year we had a hurricane and lost power for five days, and they had to call in the military.

    I feel your pain.

During the average summer we’ll get a few tornadoes around here but they’re generally scattered in nature [IMG]

Nothing like when I was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base near Wichita Falls, TX when we were under the gun nearly everyday during the month of may [IMG]

I'm in Tornado Alley - for now. My sister, brother-in-law, niece, and daughter all live in KC and the sirens were wailing up there this morning. Everybody is really paranoid after this last weekend. My son and youngest daughter are scared to death of this weather after we were hit last May. By some miracle it missed our house, but I can definitely tell you that a tornado really does sound like a train. Not something I'll soon forget. I hope this weather settles down soon. It's making me a nervous wreck.

waterspouts and dust devils are more common here...we have had small tornadoes but theyre so small its kinda dumb calling them tornadoes

I usually get missed by the storms that come up from the states...sometimes I get a bit of the northern edge of them ..it depends on the jetstream ...they mostly go east and just miss me

I feel like I live in the safest area of the US. We're protected from both winter weather and tornadoes by mountains to the north and west. We're too far away from the coast to really be effected by hurricanes. There are a couple of minor fault lines but nothing major. Scientists actually started studying my area after the tornadoes a couple of weeks ago that stretched from Alabama to Tennessee....we were right in the path of the storms but somehow they went completely around us. I like it here. You midwesterners should come visit.

Yeah, I'm with you. It's starting to wear on me. My boys all live in the area and I worry about them and their families. And that train sound is not real comforting, when those bad bastards roar it's a real humbling feeling. Ahh well. it is what it is.

Seems to me that the people who deny we're undergoing a change in climate patterns/global warming are facing some pretty tough evidence.

Yeah, won't it be cool when we're not all glued to a weather radio?

Tornadoes in Cali?? Wtf? Yup, Mother Nature has opened up a can of whoop ass on us.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I think its completely ignorant to ignore changes in weather patterns and completely retarded to deny that humans have an effect on the environment..

but for the sake of playing the devil's advocate...

Tornado Alley is known as Tornado Alley for a reason. We're seeing some of the most powerful tornadoes there in what, 50 years? But still, its only 50 years. That could be the result of natural cycles that occur every 50 years. Its hard to compare weather cycles because we have 24 hour weather coverage now, whereas 100 years ago these things might not have been documented.
