Awww, bad luck. I got one once cause I had an ambulance (with lights going) come up behind me at a red light, so I went through the lights. Got a stupid notice a few weeks latter. Needless to say, I debated it and won
they have a bunch of those here now..one was right outside of my bedroom window at my old apartment and I'd see it flash pretty often. I considered smashing the lens or painting it on the night we moved out but figured they would have it repaired within a week so my efforts would be futile and the heat it may bring wasn't worth it.

It's not the law.. It's some asshole company contracted by the city to enforce it. The most they can legally do is put it on your credit. I'm already past the due date, I'm not gonna fucking pay it. My wife wants me to. If i DO end up paying it, I will enclose neatly in the envelope with my check a picture of poop coming out of my butt. (an action shot)
