The state senate in Missouri has passed a bill to raise the speed limit on rural interstate highways to 75 mph. The bill is now in the house for a vote. It is obvious to anyone who drives on Missouri interstates that almost no one pays any attention to the 70 mph speed limit. A vast majority are already drving between 75 and 80. Especially the big trucks. There is very little enforcement of the speed limit. I guess when it goes into effect people will start driving 80 to 85. When asked why they passed the bill one of the senators replied that some of the surrounding states had raised theirs. I remember as a child when I told my mother that I wanted to do something that she knew would not be good for me in the long term she would reply, "If your friends jump off a cliff are you going to do the same." Apparently our state senators would. I'm sure that the number of highway fatalities will increase. Just goes to show that you don't have to have a brain tobe a politician.
The experiments been done already, it may seem counterintuitive but higher speed is not the cause of the fatalities. Your in the minority on this, people are sick of taxation by citation because they abused it for so long. Your stupid idea of having government gunmen handing out tickets trying to control everyone is why the road becomes dangerous because now you got people legally going slower in the left lane causing others to be passing on the right. You statists are all the same you always think just a few more rules and a few more government employees running around with guns enforcing those rules everything will be so wonderful ! Probably not, again because with higher limits the slower traffic is no longer 'speeding' and will have to keep right and get out of the way.
A study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety researched and studied raising the speed limit. They found that raising the speed limit by 5 mph increased the fatality rate by 8 per cent. Bottom line, speed kills. Well not actually. It's the sudden stop.
