Nope. I don't think I appear to be in one, either. I dress not to impress but to suffice. Also, my individualism prevents me from identifying with any group.
i usually don't give in to "titles" but most people consider me a "hippie" so i will just go with that
I don't seem to fall into any particular category, I'm kind of happy about that, but I don't seem to fit in anywhere much either. There seems to be a lack of gatherings or people that I can associate with in my part of the world.
it's not possible to end up beong outside any subculture, it is inherent in our little nature we find some things more fascinating then other and we choose bits and parts of culture that are mostly related among them, it doesn't necessarily mean subculture but it's definetely a form of it...the rest, stop dwelling on your indisvidualism, it's not such a great deal.
gulfwinds touched on a good point. Is it even possible to avoid being part of some sort of subculture? Short of having no interests and never leaving the house, it probably isn't. Even then, you might be part of some sort of "loner" subculture. Hypothetically, what if I was really into science fiction. I read heinlein books, have the star trek episodes on dvd, etc... Does that suddenly make me part of a subculture due to a shared interest regardless of whether or not I was trying to emulate others?
I guess that depends on what exactly the definition of "subculture" is - I tend to associate "subculture" with active, regular participation in a well-established group that has a clear identity. Obviously I have interests and could definitely be categorized in many different ways, however I have no allegiance or identification, on a holistic level, to anything other than myself. Though, you could play with that and label it as an egoist "subculture" I suppose...
Subculture: a. the cultural values and behavioral patterns distinctive of a particular group in a society. b. a group having social, economic, ethnic, or other traits distinctive enough to distinguish it from others within the same culture or society.
most people would consider me a hippy/rocker. i like tie dye and old bands, and i have long hair. but i also like band shirts, heavy metal, and headbanging.
i voted for hippie/rocker. i really dig old tunes from the 60s and 70s, plus i'm pretty earth-child like and i wish i were more free-spirited.
