does using sunblock stop your body from getting what it needs to make vitamin D?

oh dont fret, doctor asa will sell you some extremely overpriced supplements  or you can just go get some vitamin d3 at your local health food store.

next time you have your blood checked have them check your D level. it should be between 70 and 90. ive seen you post about fibro myalgia. he says low D levels are one of the root causes of those symptoms.

you should browse his site i believe it has all the formulas for different ailments. just buy the supplements elsewhere.

It may seem like that but there are a lot of things that can hinder the production of vitamin d. Darker skin, sunblock, and even getting older will decrease the amount a person can get from the sun. That's why milk and milk alternatives are fortified with vitamin d. And the daily recommended amount as actually grossly inadequate for optimal calcium absorption. I take a vitamin d supplement that costs me literally $1 a month, so you be the judge.

You really only need a little bit of time in the sun without sunblock to absorb some vitamin d -also depending on how fair your skin is. 15 minutes isn't long at all- and most people wait a little while till they are out in the sun before sunblocking up.

Yeah I'll agree with that. And since the commonly stated daily requirement is grossly inadequate (it's more like 1500IU per day), the better route would be get sunlight but with sunblock and take a dietary supplement.

If you use a sunscreen that is strong, since it blocks the suns rays,it will interfere with getting vitamin D.Sun exposure in moderation is very healthy for most people and not only because of vitamin D.

Yeah it seems like theres more health benefits from sun other than vitamin d. I know it gives you strong bones thats an important one. And i remember when i heard about ways to live longer one of the things was to get alot of sun exposure. I love the sun! never wear sunscreen never get sunburnt.

Stronger bones because vitamin d is essential for the absorption of calcium and calcium makes for strong bones. So strong bones isn't a different reason than vitamin d.

How does it make you live longer? Other than producing vitamin d, which can be supplemented to meet daily requirements.

Yeah i guess your right thats why it gives you stronger bones.
I don't know why it makes you live longer, i just remember an article i think in a science magazine or something said the basic steps for living a long healthy life, (they were getting tips from an old lady that was 105 or something) and i remember one of the steps was get alot of sun. Some others where to get plenty of sleep, try to never be stressed, and eat lots of maize.

It most likely makes you live longer because calcium plays an important role in many functions of the body, not just in bone development. I wouldn't take that article to heart though. Maize isn't a very healthy food, high in carbs and omega 6 fatty acids and low in vitamins and minerals. The sleep and stress parts are right on though, obviously.

Actually they're talking about indian corn, which has alot more vitamins and minerals than regular corn. I don't even like regular corn.

I don't know any other name than indian corn or maize. Its the original maize that indians use. Stupid americans kept breeding out all of the flavor and the vitamins of the corn and turned it bland and yellow. Mabey it was too much for people and they wanted to sell more simple corn i don't now.

    Whoa trippy.

We don't have a way of knowing its nutritional content, but I'm willing to bet that it still has the carbs and the omega 6. And even with more nutrients in it there are plenty of ways to get nutrients so it seems like they just picked something arbitrarily to throw into their article. And why not something that's actually proven to make you healthier like spirulina?
