So, I was perusing through youtube when I came across this video:

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=o3lh27s7Wbo&feature=related

This guy flaming against dreadheadhq and knotty boy waxes. He rightfully bangs on through the WHOLE video about how wax is bad and they only wanna make a buck blah blah. But wait. He says "we DO NOT MISFORM ABOUT WAX. Wax is bad and we'd never sell it to a dreadhead."

So I did a little research into his site, as I was rejoicing that a dreadlock company actually tell the truth....It was over taken fast, the conclusion that superhippie are worse than DHHQ AND KB put together.

His site DOES sell wax http://www.superhippie.com/accessories.htm

What is even more frightening is that his video SLATES the use of wax but on his site they say this:
%100 pure Beeswax 1 Oz: $2.95 Pure beeswax made by honeybees from the Tahuya River. Great for making jewelry and maintaining dreadlocks.

I am so angry about his hypocrisy so I did more digging about his Dread products.

"This is the best of the best shampoo for dreadlocks. It is made from all natural ingredients and it has no harsh chemical residues. This dreadlock shampoo actually tightens dreadlocks. There is no other shampoo that compares to Superhippie Dreadlock Shampoo!"

Oh yeah? This is what I found out:

Quaternized Panthenol is the aquatic solution of the quaternary ammonium compounds of panthenol usually made in a laboratory. Nothing natural about this. Annato, found in margarines and butters so will not help lock dreads.
propylparaben, occurs as a natural substance found in many plants and some insects, although it is manufactured synthetically It is a preservative typically found in many lotions, shampoos and bath products. Methylparaben, if injested causes serious allergic reactions. Diazoldnyl Urea. This is a formaldehyde RELEASER. People have severe reactions to this, Morticians use formaldehyde as a corpse preservative.

I'm so angry about this guy's video and his claims I found this in the how to dread bit

You shouldn’t put wax on your dreads until a few weeks after they are locked. All wax is for is to help the frizzies lay down and make your dreads look a little better. When you do decide to wax them use only %100 natural beeswax. Other types of wax may cause your dreadlocks to mold. Only wax clean dreads. This means only wax them after washing them and use the wax sparingly. The websites that tell you to use wax while putting in your dreadlocks are only concerned with making money and should not be trusted

    Wow! What a hypocrite!
I have yet to find a site that is truly dedicated to natural locks while selling dreadlock products. I always end up finding at least 2 products that have questionable ingredients.
My dream is to develop an all natural, herbal based line of dreadlock care products. I'm in the process of developing a dreadlock shampoo bar, its still in the trial & error stage for now. It is definitely harder to create all natural products,as the shelf life can be very short on most herbal remedies.

They are selling natural beeswax for mature dreads to act as a gel, no? Sort of like pomade except natural? I have heard of people using such products correctly to tame their mane. And it's 3 bucks.
I believe the other sites sell wax to get a dread n' go look on day 1. The buyers have this false confidence with their hair and it goes into the core of the baby dreads. They do not realize their dreads have a meek future and they paid like 10 bucks for it (the wax).
I don't think it's just as bad when looked at that way.
I know I know, wax is evil no matter what but i am playing the devil's advocate here.

    Moondoggie:

His video comes across as saying that any use of wax be it immature dreads or mature is bad. He's also erased my comments about why he is so against the use of wax in any age dread to shamelessly self promoting the use of wax on his site.

I am appalled at his self promotion of his shampoo as well. Says it's 100% natural yet my findings show his shampoo uses formaldehyde as an ingredient. To me he seems an advocate for hair loss and cancer

He blocked me from youtube and left me this comment why I asked him again why does he use formaldehyde he replied:

Thank you for the comments. Every time you post a comment, that's a view for the video. Just keep posting and I'll keep deleting. Together we can make my videos super popular.

    Ass. He's hiding something

Ah, I stand corrected. How corrupted of him. I like to see the best in people so I'm hoping he isn't purposely harming his competitors just to profit for his own business. I'd like to think he truly thinks in his mind that his products are safer. I'll watch the vids to see if he has shady vibes.

Yeah, i watched the vid and he kept plugging his website store while ragging on the other dread-based web stores. Eh,but he is a business man so I can't call him a bad guy for that. Companies bash their competitors all the time. It's part of the game. *Shrugs*
The beeswax thing is weird. This guy runs the site all by himself and managed to slip out like that? Too funny. But you never know, perhaps an employee of his put up that description.

It's cool that you caught on to that though, are you the only one or did others call him out also?

He's replied saying that he doesn't use formaldehyde so I've gone to the site to show him and he's deleted it from the ingredients list. As far as I'm aware I'm the only one who saw that about the shampoo

I don't know where you got your info but there is no Formaldehyd in our shampoo, maybe you read the word "propylparaben" wrong,

I'm mistaken he didnt erase it. Ummm I'm even more annoyed he doesnt even know what his ingredients mean. Diazolidinyl Urea is a formaldehyde releaser.

My laptop came with a program called snipping tool. Just in case your computer doesn't have this program I went ahead and screen shot it for ya.

Wow Moondoggie thankyou so much! He was banging on about how propyl bah de blah was natural as it was a derative from B5 made from plants.. Which is kind of true but my sources tell me that this kind of B5 is made in a lab. He decided to give me a lecture on all this and being quite derogatory:

"Sorry about all of the big words. Hope you don't have trouble understanding this."

I gave him a lecture on formaldehyde releasers. To which he hasn't responded. Yet. Nor has he responded to my question about wax. It's not so much that he's a company that gets me angry it's his hypocrisy about the use of wax and how his company shun it but yet sell it for dreads. Which is why I'm posting this just incase someone thinks his company is good. Hopefully they'll see this and realise that they're just like every other Dreadlock Company.

Edit he has responded and has threatened me with a law suit. Good luck with that I say.

Thanks Glacius I'll take a couple of screen shots of his ingredients on the shampoo just incase he removes it.

You can also try hold Alt or Ctrl while hitting Print Screen. One of the two will capture just the screen that is opened while the other will capture the entire thing. I can't remember what does what, I'm a mac/linux only user now. But beyond that just open MSpaint and paste it in.

What a fucking prick. Thats another thing alot of those dread product websites do, is try to talk down to you like theyre some kind of end all authority on dreadlocks, yet theyre completely full of shit and talk to use like were retarted when we call out their bullshit.

I can understand your concern, but your shock is unfounded. I don't see why you would be so surprised by hypocrisy or dishonesty in any profit-driven business. These people are exploiting a social group (dreadheads, in this case) for $, which is nothing new. :( Sad, tho.
