It was a question, you can answer it. it wasn't like s/he was proclaiming anything, Mr benadryl.

Is the sell of drugs supporting Anti-American terrorists? I'd say yes and no. First off, I'd contend that marijuana is not supporting them. Most of the marijuana I purchase I know is grown locally. The rest I'm 99.9% certain is grown in the area. However, that isn't always the case depending on where you are from. Northern USers get some of there buds from Canada, which I don't associate with anti-american terrorists. They are too busy drinking beer, playing puck, and curling. Along the southern half of the Country a lot of weed, primarily of lower quality comes from Mexico. These Mexican drug gangs might have some ties to the other "rebel" groups in Latin America. So there is a chance that the purchase of low grades may fuel some of the anti-american insurgencies in South America.
Obviously, a large percentage of cocaine is tied South American drug cartels, many of whom can't stand the US.
however, the purchase of buds in the states is not financing the Taliban, no matter how you draw the lines.

i think alotta terrorism is supported by 1 the nigerian scam (and other simular scams) which showed a remarkable increase in frequency of scam emails since 911
also its supported by the diamond trade

possibly somewhat by drugs but the extent of thats doubtful..with the exception perhaps of opiates

I've seen stories of how those emails have been increasing in amount. But is anyone really foolish enough to fall for the nigerian scam or one of its variations?

Hello, we've answered your question, and have now taken the conversation to other parts of funding terrorism. It'll probably stay there until a new opinion surrounding drugs and terrorism comes up. which I'm sure you could bring up

Wonka and soaring, obviously people fall for them otherwise you woudln't hear about them all the time. But I meant more of who is foolish enough? I know tons of people who've received these scams, but not a one who has admittingly fallen for it.

I know a lot of growers.

Some grow just for themselves. If they have some left over by the next harvest, they give the excess away or sace it for a "rainy day".
Others grow for themselves and for commerce. Of these, some are dem's, a few are rep's, some are completely apolitical.
The one's who sell, sell to friends and cannibus clubs.

There's no doubt that pot sales is the #1 money source for organized crime. Prostitution, bookmaking, chop shops and others bring in money, but pot is the big money maker (some organized crime org's deal only in weed however). Many gangs fund themselves with street-level MJ sales.
Which is the biggest arguement in FAVOR of legalizing personal grows.
If everyone was allowed to grow their own, and maybe sell a small amt (like maybe a few lbs. per person), this would REALLY take "a bite out of crime".
It would not only vastly reduce organized crime, but would also reduce the violence that often accompanies drug deals.

while i agree that is a strong reason for legalization, cocaine sales top marijuana sales in income and support more forign sources.

40oz - The smuggling trade through Mexico is not just a recent thing. It's an old concept. I have to comment that there seems to be a feeling among some that organizations and operations that smuggle drugs and other things into the US across the southern border are only being conducted within Mexico by Mexicans (and the same with Canada). Do others understand the vastness of the international (and internal) networks that support drugs and the money it produces and the affiliations of the people involved, or have people limited their concept of who's involved to only Mexicans smuggling Mexican drugs across the border?

From the Drug Policy Alliance website -

There is a real link between drugs and terrorism. The United Nations reports that the illegal drug trade is worth $400 Billion a year - more than the U.S. Department of Defense budget. Indeed, illegal drugs make up 8% of all international trade while textiles make up 7.5% and motor vehicles just 5.3%. This mass traffic in illegal drugs has greatly contributed to violence across the globe. Before drug trafficking was blamed for international terrorism, it was financing the arms race on America's streets. Similarly, any terrorist group with a militant agenda can tap into the huge resource.

    From DOJ website -

In the case of the FARC, the State Department has called them the most dangerous international terrorist group based in the Western Hemisphere. Two weeks ago, the Department of Justice indicted three members of the 16th Front of the FARC, including their commander, Tomas Molina, on charges of conspiracy to transport cocaine and distribute it in the United States. It was the first time that members of a known terrorist organization have been indicted on drug trafficking charges. The State Department estimates that the FARC receives $300 million a year from drug sales to finance its terrorist activities.

Canadian Foundation for Drug Policy -

In 1994, Reuters News Agency quoted Interpol's chief drugs officer, Iqbal Hussain Rizvi, as saying that "Drugs have taken over as the chief means of financing terrorism."62 (However, Reuters did not report whether Mr. Rizvi gave a source for his estimate, so it cannot be said with certainty that it is the main source of financing, although it is clearly a major source for many groups.)

    From Freedom Daily -

Interestingly, the headlines would suggest that the relationship between drug dealers and terrorists is a fairly recent development. The October 7, 2003, issue of the Washington Times reported,

Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan are increasingly turning to drug money to buy weapons … financing a 4-month-old Taliban offensive, one of the largest since the allies ousted the Taliban from power 22 months ago.

There are a bunch of pro and anti drug sites on the internet that argue the legal points of drug and Marijuana legalization, but both sides of that debate concur with the stated fact that substantial monies from sales ARE utilized and sought by terrorist groups that have used and will use that money to operate seditious operations around the world, including your own country. Seems like everyone who reads this is 'the other guy' when it comes to where the drugs they buy comes from. Must be a hell of a stockpile somewhere! Damn if ol' Frank Zappa wasn't right..."It can't happen here!"
