A couple of weeks ago I decided to take a stab at growing. I really didn't try too hard at first, I germinated then planted about 50 seeds in a 10 gal container, and about 20 plants started growing. I decided to let them keep growing, see which 10 or so grew the best and replant them in their own container. Then it began storming, the wind ripping, fat drops of rain kind of storming yesterday on my way to work, and I had no choice but to hope that some survived, I was stupid for not checking the weather, I know.

This morning I viewed the damage and 4 plants were left, with 2 dying. So, I replanted the last two in their own 5 gal bucket, added some sand to the mixture and left them alone. Hopefully they're not too drowned to recover.

I'm planning on going to a plant store soon and buying some vitamins and pH testers. Any suggestions on what kinds of nutrients I should be looking for and such?

I'm afraid I have some bad news darlin'.

The window of oppotunity for starting an outdoor marijuana garden in '06 slammed shut about a month ago.
Pot needs at least a month of veg to be strong enough to do anything during flowering.
And right now is when the lengthing nitetimes are sending outdoor mj plants into flowering.
I'd be surprized if you ended up with any bud at all unless they are a foot tall or more right now; then they might have a ghost of a chance.
If you have the cash tho, go ahead and try. And it's a good learning experience,
Go to any store and get some veg nutes, like say a 20-20-20. If all you can find in miracle grow get some. It's not a good brand but I'm trying to save you $.
Don't worry about pH testers or anything else. Just make sure the containers have good drainage and a sunny location.

What you really need to do is read a grow book and start next spring.
