It's odd, i woke up this morning and the right side of my neck is swollen and i can feel that the gland there is enlarged as well, i dont know what it could be, i have laryngitis two weeks ago or so and i figure i should be over it by now, im not feeling the same other symptoms as i had before so i think its something different. Also before both side swelled up, not just one. Does anybody know anything that may cause an overnight change like this? Could it be diet related, or perhaps an allergy (i have none that i know of). It's not the end of the world or anything, but im curious, i've been drinking green tea and eating vitamen rich foods and this has seemed to help slightly.
When you say it's swollen, can you feel a bump or bumps? It sounds to me that it could very well be a swollen lymph node. You can develop these during infection or even AFTER infection. It's the body's way of fighting off the intial infection, producing an excess amount of lymph fluid. I had a problem with an inguinal lymph node swelling that lasted for nearly two months, and with me, it happened seemingly overnight. I went from nothing to having a marble sized lump to one the size of a golf ball within mere days. The result? Supposedly from shaving! A year before that, my oldest son had a swollen lymph node in his neck a month after having had a viral cold. I took him into his pediatrician bcause of course I was concerned and he informed me that it was his body fighting the infection, that it could take up to a month, possibly more for it to go down in size, but to keep an eye on it. He was right. After several weeks, it was completely unnoticable. Gone. Poof.
One bump, my right side gland I also heal from infection and illness quickly. On average for say something like a flu virus i can be over it in as little as half a day, or as much as 5 days, no longer usually, which is nice. I'm hoping this will heal soon.
Yep, probably just residual from some infection. If it's really hard, or grows a lot and is hard, that's another issue, but by far most likely thing is just related to having been sick at some point (or even being sick with something currently that was caught by your immune system in time so that you don't feel sick and it's just in that node.
The neck is where the thyroid gland is located, and also your immune system...but I'm not sure your issue is related to either of those and I doubt your thyroid would be that swollen or on one side of the neck. Usually fasting will reduce any kind of swelling in the body, and help the body deal with whatever is going on more clearly. Eating healthier and lighter is great, lot's of raw organic food and really easy to digest food is great and can only help. It's entirely possible you have dairy and/or wheat allergies as most people do without recognizing it. This could definalty cause a lot of inflammation and swelling in the body if done in excess when you have a strong allergy. Hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup could also create a condition like that in my opinion, and lot's of really heavily processed conventional food. Just keep cutting back on processed food, it can only do good things. All raw organic food will help to reduce inflammation in the body, especially lots of leafy greens(very alkaline, oxygenating and cooling)...and fresh vegetable+fruit juice if you own a juicer... and lot's of herbal tea is great. Get it organic if you can.
