John Reid is probably the worst home secretary we've had under the Blair governments. This is a highly irresponsible policy....

have you noticed that every home sec is the worst we've ever had - each one makes his predecessor look like a woolly liberal. Jack Straw was bad enough, then we had the disastrous albeit comical Blunkett, then the buffoon Clarke, now we've got a Glasgow hard man in charge. The last decent Home Secretary was Roy Jenkins, long before you lot were born.

Actually I don't tend to take that view. It is true to an extent that the Home Secretary is necessarily a representation of negative powers, and being the iron fist of the government's velvet glove is never going to make you seem the most progressive member of that government. However, in terms of authoritarian, coercive policies, I tend to think Blunket was a lot worse than Clarke. Indeed most of Clarke's authoritarian policies were continuations of what Blunkett had started. Reid is similar to an extent, but I just feel he's utterly incompetent and has been utterly incompetent in every government position he's held over the past ten years. Now he's opted to split the Home Office, leave it in chaos, and then vacate the job. He's an idiot and really needs to take a back seat. Having said that, I think Michael Howard was probably the worst Home Secretary of my lifetime. Criminal Justice anyone?

They have tasers up here already, So far, the police had to only use a taser on someone once...

They are not a good idea.

They scare me. Every time I think of tasers, I think of that poor kid down in Cali who got tasered I believe it was six times, simply becuase after each time he was tasered he couldn't stand up and then they would zap him again. There's a video of it floating around youtube.
Sure it's better then shooting people, but I don't like them.

Blunket was a complete utter arsewipe and I would shit into my hand and slap it in his face if I had the chance. I dont care if he is blind he is a ****. I would not piss on him if he was on fire, well I might wait about 2 minutes and then piss on him but first I would warm my hands up and then turn round and warm my arse near the flames before wopping my cock out and piss on his face

The police regularly use tasers in Britain but its controvertial especially since the first guy it was used on in the UK was 86 and had merely parked on double yellow lines to pop into the post office

The police are thick as shit and twice as ugly - they would have no hesitation killing someone with a taser if they thought they wouldnt get prosecuted - people with bad heart conditions can die from being hit witrh one - there are ways to prevent the taser having an effect will show you a sute later that tells you

will there ever be an effective way of stopping people without using pain inducing weapons? see what the trial shows, but i doubt it will be unbias.

Great, yet another reason for the police to use unnecessary force and brutality.

I was reading the description of the vid and fair enough, the police were doing security check for the safety of the students and they couldn't identify this guy. However, they could have escorted him off the premises without using violence.

We have this thing in English law called the chain of causation. If this case appeared in the UK, the tasar would obviously be "found guilty" of causing death.

The part that really bothers me about this video and makes me cringe is that, the point of a taser is to render the person at hand imobile, and if you listen, they are yelling at him to stand up, and of course he can't, and then he gets stunned again... and again... and again.

Your bobbies are getting tasers huh?

Good luck with that. I'd like to believe your cops would handle themselves better than ours, but in reality all you've to look forward to is about a dozen stories a month of some poor bastard getting zapped to death.

A device which delivers an electric shock to someone on a scale that can go from "fuck that hurt!" to temporary paralysis. There are varieties you have to touch someone with, and varieties that shoot little fibers out over a distance. These are the culprits in a LOT of US deaths, stemming from people having a medical condition and dying after one shock - to the cops repeatedly using their tasers on the same person.
