hey all, just wondering if anyone knows anything about tattoo removal? i have a large forearm tattoo and although i still love it i fear that it might hinder me from advancing my career..... just curious to hear any stories or suggestions
there was an article in the paper about it...its laser shit, and costs a LOT of money, because you have to have it done multiple times to remove the tattoo. And overall, it doesnt do a very good job of completely getting rid of the tattoo... you're better off just wearing long sleeve shirts all the time..
Hate to say this dude but you should have thought about your future need to conform before you got the tattoo ..... I have tattoos on both of my lower arms and I never would have got them there had I thought that I wasn't representing myself to the fullest..... a tattoo becomes a part of who you are.... and I'm sorry to say that Pokesmot is right that removal of a tattoo is highly dependant on the size location not to mention age of your tattoo.... the skin on your forearm might be excepting of the lazer burning it takes to remove but the size of your tattoo will come into play when you find out how much the doctor charges I'm sure.... it is a silly idea but if you really must hide the fact that you have a tattoo to futher your career then you might want to look into cover up body make-up for tattoos.... I bought some once at this specialty store one time to cover mine (for my mum, she hates seeing them) and it worked really well. but what ever you find or decide on I wish you good luck and hope the best for you
The guy who did my tattoo was telling me how he was in the process of getting one of his removed.. and he said it hurt worse then shit, he said it hurt so bad that he threw up. And it was expensive as hell and had to go back mulitple times to finish removing it..
_TARABELLE is right! Two of my friends got a tattoo in the spur of the moment. Friend A: A small ladybug on her neck -which she requested so small that looked like a tick- Friend B: A tribal-ish- design in her lower back Friend A & B decided a couple of weeks after they got their tattoos that they didn't want them anymore & went to their dermatologist to have them removed -which they later found out it was not a great idea since her wounds were still fresh; they lied to the doctor about the age of the tattoos-. The doctor suggested: Friend A: Dermabrasion Friend B: Cryosurgery -because of the size- Both payed 3x what their tattoos were worth & ended up w/scars -the fresh scar of Friend B almost made me scream in pain- but they got them completely removed, although according to this interesting article complete removal is not always possible. I found this article on HowStuffWorks.com very informative/useful. Best of lucks!
I heard about this weird injection you can get nowadays that makes your skin reject the ink so it'll come off....... but then again that was just gossip, so there's like, a 99.9% possibility that it's a myth.
yeah im gonna go with myth on that..but if its true i wouldnt want something injected in me that makes my skin reject ink...
do you really like your tattoo? if so get Stage Makeup... its doesnt rub off easily.... usually gotta scrub... and i was watching this one show.. i think it was Taboo on Discovery Chan... but this guy in japan was covered from head to toe in tattoos.. and well in japan tattoos are usually worn by Yakuza members... well this guy was just a normal school teacher and every morning he would cover his tattoos in stage makeup and when they first showed him i had no idea he was tatted... his skin looked very natural
hmm... i read on another forum site you can use a dremel tool... lol!!!! sounds like the guy that did that though was a complete ass. "I knew a guy that had "drity white boy" on his arm. he also had a pentagram on his forehead. he paid my buddy to sand off the pentagram with a dremel tool. not the brightest guy in the world." my neighbor picked his out with lemon juice - i didn't see it before, only after & i never asked him any details about how long it took or how big the tat was to start with.
maybe something less painful then a dremmel tool lol. i also want to leave my skin intact and not have a huge scar. well, i am going to be a schoolteacher for now, but eventually i would like to get a Ph. D, and it would look unprofessional to have a large forearm tat. of course, i could care less what the people think, but if it hurts my credibility then that is not good. yes, i still like my tattoo but i did not think that i would ever be in a 'conforming' job when i got it. does stage makeup still stay on if you sweat? how well does it cover it up, because my skin is pretty white, and the tat is all blackwork.
yea... trust me they wont see your tattoo.... im not kidding when i said i saw this guy and could not see any tats... he even had them on his head.... couldnt see a single one..... color..... black.... didnt matter they were all covered here..... maybe this link will help you with how to do it. and what products you may need http://www.frankelcostume.com/pages/stage_makeup/covering_tattoos.htm
I think it is really sad that people have to choose between expressing themselves and their job. I fail to see how having a tattoo would hurt your credibility. I would feel more comfortable if more professionals HAD visible tattoos because then immediately I can relate to that person. In my opinion, the only people who will have a problem with your forearm tats are the conservative tight-asses that no one wants to be friends with anyway. I feel that if a company does not want to hire me because I have inked myself, then I dont want to work for that company anyway because their corporate culture is not me. You LIKE your tats, why get rid of them? Find a company that embraces you for you, not what your skin looks like. Its just another form of discrimination and I'm tired of it.
few people in the professional world, including myself, would quit a job because a company wouldn't allow me to express myself. a job is not worth quitting over a tattoo. also, many conservative-tight-asses are in the high ranks of many jobs. maybe someone with a tattoo could relate to you personally, but there is sort of a stigma in the professional world regarding tattoos. first impressions are very important, and i would not want people getting the wrong idea of me. i know its not fair, but its how things are. maybe not for you, but for me, yes.
maybe you should say career, not job. a job is replacable, a career is your life's work. big difference. check out the tattoo sites, there's lots of ads for tattoo removal products. i don't know how good or how expensive they are since i've never known anyone to use them - guess you could check their bbb rating.
I dunno man, to me having a tattoo lasered off isn't right. I'd say have it covered with something else rather than having it completely removed. Not to mention the process I hear hurts like hell, imagine standing next to a frying pan while bacon is cooking, now imagine your skin inside that pan ugh! I do know where your coming from though, I have tattoo's on my forearms, and on my upper and inner right arm, The forearm tat's are definatly job stoppers, especially because of the controversy they cause, who would have known being a 17 year old rebellious, feminist type with Anti Sexism would keep me from getting a 'normal' job. I say fuck those companies, and I'm glad I have a permanent reason as to why I won't work for corporate whores =) The pic is a little dark, but what can I say my camera is a piece of shit.
