I've noticed that over that 15-20 years tattoos have gotten really popular. In the old days the only people that had tattoos were Bikers, Sailors, or Prisoners. I just think they are becoming too trendy, it seems like every one under the age of 25 has one.
I got this tattoo in June 2003, when I was 39. Its a long story but a friend's daughter has been calling me sunshine for 2 1/2 yrs so it was like getting my name on my arm. While growing up I had an uncle who was a tattoo artist and I liked watching him give bikers their tattoos sometimes, and still like checking out other peoples tattoos.
I think Piercings are getting to trendy for my liking. It seems like every girl over 16 has her Navel, Nose and tounge pierced
actually tattoos are not as trendy as they used to be, people used to get tattoos as souveniers of places they went, instead of key chains or bumber stickers, Queen Victoria had a tattoo. i think that we just see them more often now because people are wearing less clothes then we used to be.
i agree tattoos are becoming increasingly popular, but that's not a bad thing. if people like them, fair enough, as long as they dont have the same designs and dont copy them off people. i've got two tattoos and i love them. i wanted them cos i wanted to express my feelings through them. they're bothg on my back so i dont show them constantly. only *special* people can get to see them up close. I like tattoos, i think they have some kind of mistique, je ne sais quoi..
It does seem as if everyone has a tattoo! I myself have three, they're all custom drawings of my favorite flowers; one of them is a pattern of sorts. I don't think they're too trendy as long as they are a direct expression of the person that has them. For example, to me flowers express beauty, femininity, and renewal. I have certainly seen some trendy tattoos though. It seems as if so many people have that tribal band...give it a rest!
Tattoos are way too trendy. You couldn't pay me enough to get one. Trendy factor aside, I think they just look tacky.
Tatoos are very popular, but I think it's great. Actually one of my tatoos are extremely common. A tribal butterfly on the small of my back At the time I got it I had just turned 18 and I honestly didnt realize that alot alot of girls had the pretty much the same thing. To be honest it does kind of bother me sometimes........but it shouldnt, because I got what I wanted and I like it alot.......but it does, I wont lie. I might even get it done over one day *shrugs*
If you're truely passionate about the tattoos you choose to decorate your body with, it's not a trend at all. But, there are plenty of people out there getting tattoos for the sole purpose of becoming a part of "the tattoo trend".
i still think that the industry is growing and developing in places like technique, design, products. but i don't think they are more trendy, just that they are more elaborate and colourfull then they used to be. and like i said before, i don't think it's the tattoos that have changed, i think its the clothes that have changed, lots of people used to get tattoos but they wore suits and big dresses.
i never had any interest in getting a tattoo. but then i went to see my best friend this summer, and totally spur-of-the-moment, we decided to get tattoos. we found a sanskrit phrase in a book, and we each got half: mine roughly translated means "the path", and emily's is "to enlightenment". i love my tattoo-it reminds me of how much i love my best friend, and i like what it says about each of us. just my two cents.
I got my first tattoo for my 40th birthday. Not because it was trendy or anything else. I got it because I wanted it. I had wanted a tattoo for about 10 years before I finally did it. I have never thought of my body as being very attractive. Now I have beautiful pieces of art on my body. Most of them are not visable. They are for me not for others to see. I have a bracelet that is visable. That's the only one that people can usually see. I plan on getting another in a couple of weeks for my 54th birthday. A fairy on my lower back. Kathi
sure tats are gaining popularity. Its an archaic revival. We don't want to be defined by the corporate (meaning complete as well as business) world in which we found ourselves stranded. what bemuses me is the use of logos or trademarked characters, even Stealies, that to me seems like buying into the commercial culture. Now, many Grateful Dead tat references are in homage to the life-changing events brought about by the band, the music and the travekling circus. Same is true for any of the touring jam bands. I have a buddy who bought a Jerry Garcia original painting. He also had it faithfully recreated on his lower back (ribs to hips and all the way across), Good thing he's stocky.... now, in a divorce he lost the art as an "asset of the marital union." He still has his tat, tho. as for the zillions of people with a tribal-pattern butterfly, it IS tribal. we mark ourselves in ink, or clothes, or music, or parenting practices, that make us part of one group and separate from another. I haven't found the art I want for life, yet. Still looking for the inspiration, image and artist.
i dont get ink to follow the trend or to be in fashion... i like how they look and i love how it feels getting one. all of mine are special to me, they feel like they are a part of who i am. i woldnt get a butterfly thet didnt look right on me just to be like britney spears...................
I have a nose ring and I enjoy getting my ears pierced. I dont know I just love it haha. without my nose ring or earings I feel naked. I would have to design my own tatoo. I dont want what everyone else has. peace chickens
I don't really think that's a bad thing... I mean yeah since everyone is getting one we have some fools who will get whatever inked on their bodies. One kid lifted up his shirt to reveal a large skull tearing through his skin and "Austin 3:16" on his back.... lord I'm sure he's going to regret that. But it's a good thing... Tattoo's are very symbolic and important, a little chronicle of who you were when you lived and the choices you made based upon your beliefs/interests/ideals/social role. I don't have a tattoo, or any extra holes in my body. I'm not opposed to the idea of a tattoo, I just haven't had a good reason to get one, and I'm not decisive enough to pick something out that I want on my body forever. I was thinking of getting one for my 18th birthday, seeing as I don't smoke, don't gamble, and am not that big on going to a strip-club... I bought a glass piece from a headshop, but that's not all that exciting. The one tattoo that has stuck in my mind though is a simple circle. Just a black circle with an open center. It can mean so much to so many people... and can continue to mean many things as my life progresses. Maybe on the back of my neck, or on my hand. Two painful spots I know, but they just make more sense to me there for some reason.
everyone that i've talked to has said that the back of the neck is the best place as far as pain (or lack of). that's where i'm gonna get mine in a month or two
Just wanted to share my newest. I got this yesterday for my 54th birthday. And I'm sure it won't be the last. Prices are sure different here than I'm used to. The first place we went to wanted $500 for this. We went somewhere else and got it done for half that but that's still more than I'm used to paying. It's been ten years since my last tattoo and that was in Illinois. I guess things cost a lot more here in Jersey. Kathi
i don't have any tattoo's i want one though a beltane symbol between my eyes. a sign of the druidic goddess
