    Hey folks!
My girlfriend & I are moving to Tempe in September. We just took a trip out there but it was too hot to do anything... we found an apartment and did little else.

Anybody from around there? What's the scene like (assuming there is one)? How bout ASU? I'm finishing my Sculpture BFA there starting in fall 2005 and I'm wondering what the general attitude of the schol is as well. The place seemed kinda cool but maybe a little conservative & stepford-ish (the 70s classic, not the new stupid one). I saw one Kerry sticker and about 1000 dubya stickers the whole time we were there so I'm a little anxious.

Thanks for any tips, advice, suggestions of good places to eat, good hookah joints, etc!

Yah, we went to Tempe town lake when we first got into town and checked out Mill a little but it just seemed like a giant outdoor mall. Since I've been back, i checked out some hookah spots online... I was surprised to find so many.

I guess it'll just take some looking around to find my niche there.

    Thanks for the info!

I highly suggest if you are ever in the Ahwatukee area that you go to a place called Coffee Society (next to AMC 24 on 48th Street and Ray Rd.)... They have the greatest hookahs (HUGE selection of flavors...) and the best coffee. It is one of the biggest hang outs on a Friday or Saturday night... even during the week they get busy. It is awesome...

coffee society i would say is the hoppin' place, but a lot of the people that come down there are people in their teens-20s, from what i've experienced. as for the political balance, it does seem that it a lot of areas there are republicans, but the group of democratics and liberals seems more unified and tight-knit as a result. and if you search mill ave., there are some pretty cool places. i've been living here my whole life, but these are just my opinions. :). let me know if you have any more questions.
