ok. i was tokin' with a friend of mine at a gig of the Mars Volta in front of the stage yesterday, some pretty chaotic and heavy music that can really affect you mentally on its own and even more when you're high.

my friend didn't feel so well maybe 20 minutes after finishing teh joint so i brought him away from the music and got him a coke. after that he still didn't feel to well and asked me if i could bring him to the toilets and on his way to the toilet he told me things got darker in front of his eyes more and more, which freaked me out. he apparently became temporarily blind and he became really bleak, but after he went to the bathroom he was pretty okay again. anyone can enlighten me on what happened to that guy? do you think it even had something to do with the pot? I didn't get affected by the pot like him...

Probably, he wasn't getting enough oxygen to his brain.
If I smoke lying down and then stand up really quick, it is not abnormal to temporarily lose vision. He was probably dehydrated as well if you were at a concert. When things slloowwwly go from light to darkness, like fading, the person is probably going to pass out, not going blind.

Or maybe it's just a brain tumor. If smoking weed makes you blind, or makes you pass out and crack your head, perhaps pot isn't the best substance for you to be abusing?

ive only had one instance thats similar to this. i hadnt smoked for about a week then a bunch of my friends went over to this guys house. we smoked like 2 blunts and a few joints within like 20-30 minutes. i cant remember if everything went black or anything like that. but i was so baked like super fast i zone out and fell backwards. i caught myself as quick as i could come out of the zone. it was crazy i just got super super baked really fast after not smoking for a few days to a week LOL.

he might have just been dehydrated... it happens easily at concerts.. dont wanna leave your spot so you dont get anything to drink.. tons of people = lots of heat... and you just get exhausted and dehydrated and you start goin funny.... i came very close to blackin out before a dylan concert... i was sittin on the ground before the show.. its like low 90s outside... i stand up because my leg was falling asleep... i was all dizzy and vision was all messed up... i bought 2 powerades and slammed them.. and i felt waaaaaaaay better within minutes

that happened to me at a concert before, too.
i went to an allman brothers concert last summer and smoked a shit ton of weed, and when the band came out i was screamin and yellin and stuff and i started feeling dizzy and it felt like i couldn't hear, and my vision started to go away, so i sat down.. after i sat down for a couple minutes i felt a lot better

    it happened to me once.
i hadn't smoked in a long time and i was drinking.
like one poster said i was standing and suddenly just went black. i felt somewhat dizzy and like toppling over but after a few minutes everything returned to normal(well, I was high and drunk)
This happened a couple years ago and hasn't happened since then, so I didn't get checked. If it happens again then be careful and do something about it. If not, then just wait . It should be fine, but just wait it out. =]
If it does happen I would definatley cut out the pot(or cut down immensly) , take it very slow. and maybe get checked.

but it seems to have happened to a lot of people, so i would tell your friend not to worry much
shit happens, i've gotten headrushes and fell to the ground.
looks and is dangerous, but isn't unhealthy. just got to be careful.
like other posters said dark lights and dehydration also would affect a temporary blindness / blackout

i know that when i have been lying around all day and get up really fast than i can almost loose my sight, never really thought it would be caused by a lack of oxygen in the brain :S strange to see so many people have experienced it, i mean i've been smoking for four years or so with lots of people in lots of different situations and i never even heard from it. good to know its temporarily though, i really freaked out. like, ok, i'm at a concert of a band i really wanted to see for a long time with a good friend of mine and now this happens to him... SHIT! thanks for the comments BTW
