i developed a pretty nasty case of tendonitis a few years ago in my wrists from overplaying my guitar without enough rest. i quit playing guitar for a while and it got better but came back right when i started playing guitar again. so ive been playing off and on for 2 years, more off than on, taking frequent breaks and icing my wrists. about 4 months ago i realized they wernt getting any better and i could only play for a little bit before have to stop and ice my wrists. i havnt touched my guitar since then, ive been bracing my hands at night and not using them in the day. ive been doing all the streches my P.T. gave me, ive been getting ultra sound done on my wrists and forarms, ive been icing, using a tens unit, im getting trigger point massage therapy, ive been eating healthy for 4 months, no soda, no fast food, no proccessed mystery meat bullshit, just natural organic foods, ive been getting plenty of omega-3 in my diet. i get a good amount of exercise the only thing detrimental to my health is that i smoke a little pot, and i keep my tolerance low. my wrists felt better after my first couple P.T. appointments, and after my first trigger point massage, but after that they seem to just stop making progress, ive tried everything i can think of except im getting an acupuncture appointment next week. but its been 4 months and i know if i start playing guitar as much as i want to it will just get worst as when it started. when it was at its worst i couldnt bend my wrist forward without sharp pain piercing down my arm. im really really desparate to get this taken care of, i didnt practice 6 hours a day for 6 years to work at some fast food restaruant, i want to teach guitar for a living and thats always been my plan for my life cause i have no other skills, and i just want to spread the joy of music. my life is shitty enough as it is and now im just watching my only constructive hobbie just wither away and die. any help would be greatly appreciated.
i had it too and acupuncture helped but whaytt i ended up doing was seeing an amazing doc (ppl come from around the world to see him and no maytter what time u setup san apointment for your bound to wait 5-10 hours but he'll stay till 4 am to give every1 the best he can) well anyway he injected the tendons with some sorta steroid between that and braces a good while its gotten lots lots better gut still sometimes kicks up if iu over do it oh for imediate reliefe try homeopathic arnica internaly and the massage oil if that dont do it try i think its nux vomica 1 of those 2 homeopathics should possibly help i hope.. try the arnica if it doesnt help buy 3rd or 4rh dose try the other...
Around your wrist is a sheath that is wrapped around just below your hand that is about 2 inches wide; it keeps all your tendons bundled together as they run in to your hand. Most cases of tendonitis the sheath gets to tight and puts pressure on the tendons. There is a few different theories about what causes tendonitis some people think it is from over working your hand and some people think it is from chronic holding patterns. I think it is a little of both but mostly chronic holding pattern. A persons hand is designed for hard use all day but when you have a chronic holding pattern you hold it tight at night time also so that it can’t rest and heal it self. I would get a massage therapist to stretch out the sheath and then try to watch your self and how you hold tension in your hand and your whole arm. I don’t think trigger point therapy is that effective on tendonitis, I would find a different therapist and tell them you want some work done on your sheath and your shoulders and arms and tell them you want them to show you some techniques you can use to stretch out your own sheath. Most massage therapist study a few different ways to stretch out the sheath on your wrist but if you learn how to do it on your own you can stretch it everyday. I do massage therapy and all of the people I have worked on with tendonitis have also had chronic holding patterns. I always tell then to stretch out the sheath and to try to stop hold so much tension in their wrists.
ive been stretching out my sheath for a while but stretching doesnt really help it that much, sometimes it hurts worst after stretching. the inflammation starts randomly, sometimes it will be fine and then it will randomly spark up again when im not even stressing out my wrists or arms. does the tendon from your thumb go through the same sheath as your fingers cause the pain almost always starts at the base of my thumb? arnica does work good for immediate relief but i dont think your suppose to use it alot for chronic pain. i havnt tried a steroid injection yet but i keep hearing mixed reviews on how effective they are. thank for the replys
ive been using warm packs for around 3 months, i can tell they make a little difference but not enough for me to get back into playing guitar
