Terrified of Highways....

Doesn't get any simpler than that, I am scared to death of driving on the highway/interstate....
Even when someone else is driving and I am just a passenger, it still scares me beyond belief...
I seriously start to panic and to the point where I close my eyes at times (not when I'm driving of course)
I dont know if its just the semi's that fly past, or the speed, or the hurrying and make sure I get the right exit...
It took me forever to start driving on the highway, until I had to start taking it to work everyday... And I cant tell you how much that sucks...
So there you have it, I am scared as shit to drive on highways and so forth...

 

Highway' s one of the safest places to drive. You must have a phobia.

 

I hate highways too because I'm absolutely terrified of those huge semi trucks. I used to have nightmares about semi-trucks when I was a little girl. *laughs*

I'm not as bad as you though, I drive them, I'm not thrilled about it, but the only time it really scares me is at rush hour. Then I'm ready to park my vehicle alongside the road and curl up into a ball until things calm down. Lucky for me though, I rarely have to drive the highways. I don't care for driving as it is.

but i dont think its the safest places to drive cause everyones driving super fast not really paying attention, when people merge onto the highway they dont care if you are there or not they will run into you, and sometimes shitheads wont let you merge over.. But I think its more me though cause everyone i know laughs at me so i dont deny that phobia thing cause i have something cause im scared shitless of highways/interstates

But you can relate to just that craziness of it all, the idiots behind the wheel, the tonka trucks, just the insanity of it all ya know..

 

Dude, get in the middle lane, traffic doesnt merge into the middle lane! Theres no cross traffic, everybody is going reletively the same speed. If you get in a wrek, its a bad thing, I drive highway everyday and see about one wreck every 3 months - thats not a whole lot considering how many people drive on the thing.

 

I know what you mean about the merging thing. I always start to panick when I pass a merging section because you're right, some of those people will just keep going and slam into you without a care in the world, or at least, it seems that way. They don't slow down at all even though they see you coming. I don't know if it's because they're not really paying attention, or they just don't care, but when they drive that fast as they're merging, it scares me!

Oh, and what about tailgating? That scares the crap out of me. And no, I rarely ever drive in the fast lane, but when the highway is packed, and those idiots that drive like maniacs want to pass but can't because all sides of the highway are jammed, they'll get up on your tail and ride you like there's no tomorrow. *shudders*

Exactly, you described that perfectly.. thats why people should just ride bikes

 

I hate when people ride my ass, like they expect me to have go-go gadget wheels and fly over the cars in front of me

 

...and how can people drive so fast? I'll be doing 65 and I'll be having people blow by me so fast they're almost a blur. I would be afraid to drive that fast! Heck, 65 is fast enough for me. I only drive that speed unless I'm in a real rush, any other time, I do around 55 mph.

 

cars do kill and accidents happen all the time, and granted just not on the highway...but i think highways and interstates are so chaotic...imo..

 

on my way to work this morning I was doing about 65 and some semi was going so fast and a car to my left had their signal on to get infront of me and the semi had its signal and they both started to get over until the car noticed the truck and swurved and the semi just continued to get over...its just dangerous in my opinion..

 

Yeah, bikes would be a lot easier and a lot less scarey!

I've been looking into getting one of those little trailers you attach on your bike that can hold two kids or up to 100 pounds so that I can tote my twins around. My oldest son has his own bike so he's good. But I couldn't be driving that around my busy city streets here, I'd be afraid we'd be killed by the car drivers. We'd have to stick to the less traveled roads or bike paths.

 

I had something like that happen before too. My hubby and I were in the car and this semi to the right of us suddenly decides to start merging over, and realizes as he's in the process of it that we're right next to him. It scared me half to death to see this huge truck so close to the side of our car. My blood pressure was probably through the roof.

 

See, thats what everyone needs to do, drive those...it would be a lot more safe ...

holy hell, i would have pooped my pants , thats scary and scarier when its a semi...
Those semis are extremely dangerous...and i hate it when i see one floating down the highway and speeds that are ridiculous..

 

I am scared of Highways too.... But Also of just being a passenger.. Im always making noises in the car when im a passenger.. And telling the driver to break.. I get so tense and scared.. Im fine if im driving my car on a normal road.. But Me on the highway is to much... When I leave work I have to get on a very busy Highway and get off the first exit.. there is not merging or anything I have to get on stay in the same lane and get off again in 30 seconds... That was too much for me... I went all the way around town (adding 20 minutes to my drive) to avoid that or the first 4 years... Ha Ha. Highways are scary shit

 

thank you...cause that last part is exactly what i did until I ended up being late a lot and forced to drive the highway..
Its just so chaotic and nerve racking...
