I can't believe someone actually spent money to build this thing; it is a death trap in the air and on any road. Fan Jets turn out tornato winds as exhaust and the compressor blades will suck in any kind of debris including small children and pets. Visibility is extremely limited when the engines are set for hover obstructing vision to the right and left corners; the very points you NEED to see most and rear visibility is nill. There is absolutely no glide ratio or better said "the glide ratio is ZERO." For military use a BB gun could bring it down. Would not even need a bb gun, just throw sand through the intakes. It is a joke.

While many of your points are true.. How is a Cessna any different?
I got to solo level in Cessna and it had horrific view in all aspects accept forward.
As to mil apps. is not US mil well advanced into hover recon using contra rotating hover pod.. ie a ring with 2 counterotating fans. with camera below @ cog.
Flying cars are 'civilian'.. not military.
This is beginning f a technology. A joke.. well Maned flight was once called a joke..

Whenever I hear about flying cars all I can think of is how badly some people drive now. Running people over, hitting other cars, driving into buildings etc. Now we will have to worry about cars falling out of the sky?

I did watch the video. The guy is talking about going long distance (over 50 miles) and the people only being passengers (not driving). The computers and whatnot are driving the vehicle. They are already making cars that will make decisions for the drivers and I find some of them scary. Don't these people ever have cars that break down or malfunction?

My first thought after watching the video was:

"Open the pod bay doors, Hal"

You have an excellent point of view. FixWing aircraft must maintain forward airspeed and worry little about what is behind; the focus is forward and to the left and right front. However, an aircraft that is able to maintain zero airspeed need to be able to see 360 degrees.

You are correct regarding military use; however, the manufacturers are marketing its use to the military (not that any military in the world will buy it). I have a problem with moving parts on aircraft, especially counterRotating parts. It is very easy to exceed structural limitations in any aircraft. Once two opposing forces (counterRotating blades for one) collide the resulting spray of metal shards is enormous as the aircraft dissintegrates.

The use of cameras is an advancement in creating greater visibility, that I like. As for this particular type of technology I believe the authors of the "Sky Car" have invented a dead end. And yes, computerization is taking over the aviation industry, sadly. But, here is something new that is strictly civilian and the wave of your future:

Ie for those unfamilliar.. Too propellers spinning in opposite directions to stop main drive from gyrating .
An example is Movie . Blackhawk down.. when tail rotor gone.. main prop spins one way and helo goes the other.. action and reaction. helo spins opposite to rotors.. and whole shebang spins into the ground.

Off top of head.. The latest Russian Attack helo has counter rotating props.. the black shark. Theres no 'black shark down for russians heheh.

As to 360 view.. does a Harrier have 360 view.. it hovers BY COMPUTER
